I would argue that the fact that the KV series tanks and many others were discontinued early on had little to do with their effectiveness and more to do with the superiority of the T-34.

We were discussing the merits of the KV-2, not the entire KV series!

Just had a quick flick through Panzer Truppen to see what of the heavier stuff reached the eastern front in '43. Apart from what was at Kursk already mentioned a further 500 odd Panthers and 180 Tigers made it east by the end of '43. It wasn't until mid '44 that Panthers were present in significant numbers and there were only ever a couple of hundred Tigers present at any given time.

light tank marmon herrington ctls-4tac /4tay
commercial export tank
driver and turret placed side by side
ctls-4tac had turret on right side/driver left side ,driver hood stopped turret traversing left side so a version had to be produced with turret on left side/driver right side hood stopped turret turning right
in other words the two had to deploy together

How about the Panther?

Over engineered. Too heavy for the gun mounted. Too large and too expensive.

I have long favoured the Daimler-Benz as a potential war-winner.
