Just wanted to say a quick hello to my fellow toy gamers! Been lurking here a long while, but only now decided I should probably say "howdy".

So who here is currently using Lego minifigs for wargaming/skirmishing? I've only recently discovered this option after being a "proper" gamer/wargamer since the early 80's. I say you're never too old to play with toys!

My son made up two Star Wars Lego armies for Hordes of the Things; he has more planned.

I was going to say that they are expensive, but I guess at £2.00 GBP for a 'painted' figure, maybe not too much?

Buying parts piecemeal from sites like Bricklink really offsets the costs for me, advocate. The way Games Workshop is setting prices these days, it appears Lego is slowly becoming the cheaper alternative. ;) Heehee.

I should note, especially to someone who's been away from Lego for a while the Minifigures series contains very interesting possibilities for gaming: Roman Legionnaire, Gaulish Warrior, Knights, Samurai, Grenadier Guard, Vikings. See some pictures here: link

Between me and the two kids, we have gobs and gobs of Legos. I've built small terrain pieces and some robots for wargames, but we've never gotten around to using them yet. Maybe this will rouse me from my slumber.

I use the Mega Bloks True Heroes Military sets (the ones from Toys R US) for games of Modern Havok.

Where do you buy your mini figs? I've only ever seen them in random packs.

My boy has fielded Mega Bloks Halo figures instead of a tactical squad in his space marine army.
They had a set of weapons we bought off e-bay containing lego size copies of the ones used in black ops two.
the options are out there ,you just have to look or have a kid to bug you about the bits.

I've a large collection of Lego mini fig pirates including quite a few ships. There were some rules online once called wooden ships and plastic man. I use these for a very large game at Historicon in the last century.

Note that there are quite a few companies out there making special pieces and weapons for the Lego market.

I have myself moved on to playmobil figures for my gaming. They are a little bigger.

Wow, seems to be quite popular! I use Playmobil scenery like rocks and palm trees. I find they're scale free and look great with minifigs.

Brick Arms, Brick Forge, Brick Warriors and Si-Dan/Minifig Cat all have great weapons from ancients to modern.

Those all look cool.

At $6 USD-$12 a figure, don't think I'll be starting any mass combat games with 'em anytime soon.

Well as I said above, if you buy your figs piecemeal (bunch of torsos, heads, legs) from a place like Bricklink (like and eBay for Lego parts) then it ends up being cheaper in the long run. I don't think I've bough a proper minifigure yet. They are pretty pricey, even on Bricklink when you buy them complete.

I've seen games at shows using Lego Sci-fi models and thought they looked great, saves loads of painting.

I've also seen a Dr Who game where grey and black lego bricks and pieces were used to create the environment – a space ship interior. This was combined with painted metal miniatures and it looked brilliant. I really great idea.

I have not seen this, and I'm surprised that nobody has done it. Consider making Lego figure decals or glue on pieces. Someone could take their beautiful artwork that they have put on the figures and save a lot of money by just selling the design sheets. You know like Xerox a bunch of Lego figures on the machine And cut out the pieces. Then glue them on the flat front and back of the figures. Get cheap civilian figures with no designs.

There are a number of minifigure decal manufacturers, search for lego minifigure decals to get a list on the Web.
