Hi Everyone! I'd like to announce that i've been working on getting a new miniatures line up, called ClearHorizon Miniatures. I have miniatures being sculpted, and a drop pod has been designed and will be cast up in resin. I'm not ready to talk about the miniatures yet (although they are very cool and are being sculpted by Rodrick Campbell from Highlander Studios), but I wanted to show off what Steve Tyler from CoolHand3d has 3D sculpted:
It is approx 29mm tall and approx 38mm wide.
It is designed to hold two occupants in each of it's three facings, for a total of six, although we've designed it with closed interior doors so you can say there are as many inside as you want. The ramps and landing gear are all separate, in case you want to have a closed or open drop pod. As far as the inner doors opening: From Jane's Drop Pods and Dropships 2236:"The High Energy Landing / Direct Insertion Vehicle Mark X9 features a unique inner door that protects the occupants even after the ramps have released and deployed. In order to allow the door to open in the space provided the door has been constructed out of electric-memonic laminate nanite-based titanium and carbon alloy. When opening an electric charge is applied at a very specific frequency. The nanites then restructure themselves so that the top of the door widens by approx 6.2 cm. The remainder of the door then collapses into the space at the top and then solidifies open. To close the opposite occurs"
The design is being printed in 3d now, and I hope to have the resin castings available for sale soon™. Thanks for looking, and I can't wait to show you guys more! Harold ClearHorizon Miniatures |

What a tease! Love the drop pod, just want more info on the miniatures. Are they aliens? Humanoid? |
DinOfBattle2 | 06 May 2013 9:28 a.m. PST |
BTW, do you have a price point for the drop pod? |

What a tease! Love the drop pod, just want more info on the miniatures. Are they aliens? Humanoid?BTW, do you have a price point for the drop pod? Still keeping a lid on the miniatures
I want to get a little bit further on the process before I release info As far as a price point
I have one in mind, but I'm still waiting for some cost numbers to come in before I set it in stone. It should be in line with other 15mm light vehicles. Excellent sculpting by Coolhand. I agree JBR, really great work. Also quick and very professional, nothing but praise for him! |

Very nice
and wise for your ClearHorizon mercs to diversify in the current economic climate. |

That came out really nice. I was lucky enough to see some of the early work on this and it's been fun following along in its development. I think people will really like the troopers that go with these. -Eli |

Here's a short story with some teasers about the miniature line too: The airlock slid shut with a heavy thud. Colonel Odea surveyed the 5 members of his team as they prepared themselves for high-velocity orbital insertion. Sergeant Vance was ensuring the other members of the squad were properly restrained in the insertion vehicle. The squad was a well-oiled machine and extremely capable. They had completed drops like these both in training and during actual missions hundreds of times before. The Sergeant wasn't checking because he thought they might have made a mistake, he was checking because that was what he was trained to do. That's what keeps you alive. Sergeant Vance carried an Mk19a HEP (high-energy plasma) rifle, the standard issues for the HEL/DIV squads. His composite armor was molded on the flexible body suit that he wore. The composite armor pieces could withstand direct impact from most weapon systems on the battlefield and the flexible body suit not only had a chameleon-effect capability, but it also had an impressive impact rating. Woven into the various parts of the body suit were sensors and displays, along with first aid pharmaceutical reservoirs capable of diagnosing and stabilizing most battlefield injuries. Colonel Odea slide his helmet on and locked it into place. As the subsystems were powered on the helmet went from a dark room with a window to a view of everything around him. Augmented reality displays meant that he had an almost 360' view with magnification and image mode sensors available on command. It was state of the art and since this was the command version it included a highly-sophisticated suite of communication capabilities as well. Colonel Odea checked his weapon, the same Mk19a HEP, and synced it to his helmet. A reticule appeared in his field of vision indicating where the weapon was aiming, the range to nearest target, firing mode and ammunition remaining. Odea placed the weapon into the restraint next to his seat. Sgt. Vance finished his pre-drop check and signaled to Odea that the squad was ready for drop. Col. Odea voiced over the communications channel to the Bridge "Gold-Four, ready". "Gold-Four, this is ClearHorizon Actual, initiation complete. Have a pleasant flight." The weightless sensation and the sound of the outer-hull doors opening told Col. Odea that he had 10 seconds before the exit thrusters would fire and he would be clear of the ship. Then another two minutes of high-orbit descent and six minutes until the retro-thrusters would fire and they would be on the ground. The exit thrusters fired.

"electric-memonic laminate nanite-based titanium and carbon alloy" I know that it's just techno-babble, but you need to fix the spelling. |

Any ETA on the miniatures? Nothing firm yet
but at least a month or two. They are still being sculpted In case you're interested this is the process: Torsos and legs, Heads and weapons are sculpted as dollies A master mold is made from the dollies and cast in extra hard metal From those casting the sculptor creates the complete figures The complete figures are cast in the master mold From the master mold castings are made production molds The production mold castings are made from that and then offered for sale |

Thank John! So
is there room for drop pods in the Hammer's Slammers universe? I don't recall reading anything about orbital drops in the books, but IIRC there was something in the RPG mongoose put out
