I am currently painting some of the Aventine Republican Roman Velites for the start of my new army. I am going to attempt to give the entire army a battle-worn look with dirty and tunics and battered shields – of course, that isn't as easy as it sounds, but I think these are turning out well. The Inevitable Spark thanks for looking, Jonathan |

I love the effect you achieved on the shields. I find getting plain shields looking as good as those is actually more difficult than when you have a complicated pattern. What technique do you use? Simon |

Thanks Simon. I basically built up the "worn and dirty" look by layering several colors using a dry brushing technique but with a very light hand with a brush that had more paint on it than you really want for normal dry brushing
. hope that make sense. |
