Not the best/fastest/most armoured/best gun
Down the pub this afternoon this with Sunjester we discussed this. I said Pz IV. He said T24-76 as the most 'Tank like' tank. The T34/85 ruined it with that stupid hexagonal turret. Views (PS Sherman is so OBVIOUSLY wrong! ;) Just plain ugly ) |
| Garand | 04 May 2013 12:13 p.m. PST |
It was the T-34/76 M1943 with the hexagonal turret
:) Damon. |

While the T24 certainly has its tanky merits, I´m a big fan of the M3 Medium, and in particular, the Grant with that groovy turret. As for the Germans, I prefer the PzII for tankyness, though there is a lot to be said for the III and IV, just not my style. |

Panther, those slopes, that gun, multi-leaved suspension, that sound! Tankiest tank for me, the Tiger just looks archaic, in comparison. |
gamertom | 04 May 2013 12:25 p.m. PST |
I always thought the M41 Walker Bulltop epitomized "tank." Probably comes from all the grade B "humongously sized whatever" movies I watched as a kid as the M41 followed by the M24 were the only tanks the Army ever seemed to field. |
| meatpuppet | 04 May 2013 12:56 p.m. PST |
This may sound silly, but I always felt that the Sturmtiger and the M3-Lee were epitomes of "Tankiness". |
| BigNickR | 04 May 2013 1:01 p.m. PST |
M24. of all the WWII tanks, it is the one most shaped like what the 8 year old me would draw as a "tank". Perversly most tank-destroyers are more "tanklike" to me in appearance than most of their contemporary WWII tanks.. |
| The Dread Pirate GeorgeD | 04 May 2013 1:08 p.m. PST |
When I think of "Tank", the Char B always comes to mind for some reason. Cheers. GeorgeD.

PAnzer IF
THE ULTIMATE KILLING MACHINE!!!
if they added a XT-7 AT missile launcher to it..or a pazerfaust rack. The M24 Chaffe(a ubiquitous allied version of a PZ III) would fit the bill. For Modern, I like the Ti-67 Israeli T55 variant. I always wanted a T35 in Dragon colors, each turret painted with a dragon head and have Hydra written on the sides of the main turret. |
| GarrisonMiniatures | 04 May 2013 1:15 p.m. PST |
Well, Panther for looking efficient, Churchill for looking tanky, and T35 for looking so retro. |

T-35. What can be more tanky than 5 turrets? If what you mean by "tanky" is "looks like it was designed by a 6th grader"
 |
| Texas Jack | 04 May 2013 1:39 p.m. PST |
It´s funny what people perceive tanky to be. For me, it is the less advanced, kind of pulpy interwar tanks, while for others it means the sexy late war models. Fun question! |
| Peachy rex | 04 May 2013 1:39 p.m. PST |
WWII : Panzer IV (esp F2 or later) modern-ish : T-55, Chieftain |
| Doug em4miniatures | 04 May 2013 1:44 p.m. PST |
Does it have to be WW2? If not, then it must be the Centurion, the Dinky toy model of which I lusted after as a kid but never got beyond the Dingo:-( Doug |
| Sparker | 04 May 2013 2:16 p.m. PST |
T-55, hands down.
And probably the most produced, and longest serving
..It so says 'I'm a tank' that theres no need to mumble 'Tankety tank, tankety tank
' as your moving your models around the table. Which is a good thing I've come to find
But when it comes down to your argument betweent the Mark IV and the T-34-76, I'm with you. And the 85 aesthetics definately dont work with that massive turret

The chibi-me says the M-48, 'cause one came in every bag of (tragically ill-fated) army men(tm). The now-me says the Tiger I. |
Saber6 | 04 May 2013 2:36 p.m. PST |
I'll go with the M3 Lee/Grant. Good enough for Boogie

The Mk IV Male. How do you get more 'tanky' than (pretty much) the original? Jack |
| Rrobbyrobot | 04 May 2013 3:20 p.m. PST |
Just Jack has a point. I'll vote for the British WW1 Mk IV Male as well. Although I do think the Soviet T35 looks pretty awsome. |

What I tend to draw looks more like a Merkava. But for quintessential 'tankiness, it's a tie between the T55 and the Centurion, since they're still in service! |
| Jamesonsafari | 04 May 2013 3:32 p.m. PST |
WW2, the Churchill is exceedingly tanky. Post-War, the Centurion is just one dead sexy tank beast. |
| Mako11 | 04 May 2013 3:36 p.m. PST |
Tiger I for me. Slab-sided hull, with a large gun. |
| Patrick R | 04 May 2013 4:00 p.m. PST |
I vote for the Vickers E, the forefather of the T-26, the M13/39, the 7TP and fought on almost every continent in some form or another. |
| Last Hussar | 04 May 2013 4:15 p.m. PST |
Not the Churchill- all those silly little wheels. The modern stuff isn't any good- slab sided to make the Chobham work. It may make for a good AFV, but it isn't tanky. Sparku hits the definition on the head
It so says 'I'm a tank' that theres no need to mumble 'Tankety tank, tankety tank

FT-17 Renault of course. The original true tank form. |
| Rich Bliss | 04 May 2013 6:34 p.m. PST |
I'll go with the KV-1. That looks like a TANK. |
| optional field | 04 May 2013 7:09 p.m. PST |
T-24 is a good one and so is the T-35. I'm surprised no one has mentioned, the Vickers Independent. For my vote I'd go with the British Mk I Male . |

the M48. |

I like the M3 Stuart:
It's not the biggest, or the most powerful, or even remotely the safest. But it's high and boxy and green, and has things that open up and lots of guns and knobby looking treads and those rolly things. Also, it's held together with rivets! Ron |
John the OFM | 04 May 2013 9:46 p.m. PST |

The Centurion – it went everywhere and won. The tankiest tank should usually win. |
