"Cyrte Investments and China Film Co. have come on board with John Woo and Terence Chang for their ambitious Flying Tigers feature film and miniseries project. The feature version will be released as a two-part movie in China while the miniseries will be broadcast as a six hour project internationally. I think the Flying Tigers would make for a good war film but I hate to think what John Woo is going to do to screw it up and make it as ahistorical as humanly possible, remember Windtalkers ???

One pilot flying two planes, shooting all the guns in slow motion.

In all seriousness, I would not have high expectations, but wouldn't mind seeing it.

I feel the same about this as I did Red Tails, don't care if it is "good" or "exactly historical". It's a movie, set in WWII, about aircraft…I'm in.

You're very likely to be disappointed, kyoteblue. Hope not, but track record-wise, DontFeaDaReaper is probably right about this.

I am not expecting much. Woo is not really big on accuracy. For Windtalkers (which I worked on for a while) it was very hard to talk him out of a scene where a guy steps on a mine, hears a click, and gives his stuff away to his buddies expecting to be blown up when he steps off. Seriously. Even after being shown that NO Japanese mine in WW2 would do that, it was hard to talk him out of it as he wanted the emotion of the scene.

What do you suppose the love story will be? Claire and Mme. Chenault? She was a hottie. I always wondered what were her political connections in the KMT.

Yes, whilst I normally refrain from criticising the artistic endeavours of movie makers I too draw the line at Woo. He's an action movie maker – not an historical or epic movie maker. He is drawn from the video gaming fraternity and that's pretty much who he appeals to. It's the sort of treatment that even classic Hollywood film directors of the 30's bested – and they were generally aweful.

'Windtalkers' and MI2 aside, John Woo is actually not bad. His last two-part epic 'Red Cliff' is actually very good.
