I recently picked up a copy of the Warhammer Historical The Great War and in seeing the new trench system by EWM I began searching for 20mm figures. 28mm seems to be teeming with lines but 20mm not so much. Who has the best 20mm WW1 line to go with these awesome trench systems? |

Off the top of my head, Irregular, Raventhorpe and Early War Miniatures in metal, as well as tons of stuff in plastic. Hat Industrie is probably the most prolific plastics manufacturer of WWI figs. Someone picked up the old IT range but I don't recall who it is. WWI is well served by 1/72 and 20mm figures. edit to add: Britannia and Platoon 20. Tumbling Dice also had a WWI range years ago. I don't have any idea if they still manufacture it or not. |

Zvezda make some lovely WWI stuff : link HaT make some great guns, and mini-boxes of different nations' gun crews |

Pegasus have later plastic French in Adrian helmets. They are very similar to their WWII French figures,at least by pose, and are very nice. I have the Hat later French 75mm guns, while the guns are great, the crew are so-so.Hat also make very nice FT-17's with both the Hotchkiss and short 37mm guns. |

I would have to agree with everyone here. I put together a Chinese warlord army from the 1920's and used 20mm plastics (uniforms back then were are all WW1 fire-sale)for economy sake. HAT has a nice variety of nationalities and their sculpts are good, guns are easy to asemble and really nice. Zvezda figures are beautiful, if you can get past the tedious part about assembling the figures, found the same was the case with Pegasus. I liked some of Strelets, the figures can be a little bulky -but the variety available is great (especially if you want to do Eastern front. |

The vast majority of my 20mm ww1 stuff is plastic, HaT, Revell, Emhar,Airfix. The cheap plastic HaT guns in particular cannot be beaten. Irregular 'really useful guns' are handy for the heavier stuff too. |

EWM are rapidly expanding their WWI ranges. Why not buy from the same place. Send EWM an email saying what you're after and see whats not reached the website yet. They are very helpful. |

I've just ordered some Britannia minis-I'll put some photos up when they arrive (because they won't!!!) Also I have just received some Early War Miniatures stuff and they are really good. B&B Miniatures do all sorts of bits and the Prussians from their FPW range have WW1 style back packs. They also have lots of useful FPW French figures -Zouaves, Marins etc as well as line infantry. Lancer stuff looks great but i haven't seen any actual figs. Liberation/RH Models have some useful British. rhmodels.com/46.html |

Another enthusiastic thumbs up for Tumbling Dice! They've quite a variety of headgear choices, and are the only company that I know of that makes 20mm scale figures of the Black American doughboys ("Harlem Hellfighters," "Red Hands," et al) in the correct kit of American Army uniforms, American-issue packs, French weapons and Adrian helmets. For artillery, I also like what HaT offers at good value for the money, however the white metal 1/72 scale kits of the M1897 75mm field gun and the German Krupp 77mm field gun from Reviresco are impressive little models complete with detailed limbers that can be built in either travel or deployed position. Reviresco also makes some equally impressive 1/72 white metal Great War tank and armored car kits, as well as a number of period vehicles. The Char St. Chamond, the Schneider CA1, the Austin armoured car, the Austin-Putilov halftrack armoured car, the Daimler-Mariendfeldt lorry and halftrack version, and many more. Take a look: tin-soldier.com Hope this helps! Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net

Are these plastics paint-holding hard compound or paint-shedding soft like Airfix? |

EWm have a great range of tanks at sensible prices, some hard to find types as well. See mark 9 link below. link Ewm also has a range of trench systems that are detailed, authentic yet playable. link There is even a product video so you can see what they look like up close. See the product video at : youtu.be/lZDFtUslHXA Cut and paste into your internet to view the 3 minute video showing the trench's. Currently a new range of British 1916-1918 infantry are progressing well with 18 figures already with more to follow. There are already British cavalry types and the infantry range will be released soon. longer term plans include commonwealth troops, Palestine British and Turks. Early war French mile 1897 with crew, caisson and 6 horse teams have just been released as have the Cuesott 220mm mortar, 17c and other big French guns. Some early war French infantry are made and will be released shortly. A number of early war Germans have also been made, mainly in march poses. More trench system additions are under construction. A mark 4 female and Medium C are ready for release as well. So, we have got some focus on growing the EWM "Over the Top" WW1 ranges. Keep watching the Earlywarminiatures.com web site for more updates. Did I mention the camel corps? Well, first figure is close to completion as well. Cheers paul T@ewm |

mashrewba I was admiring your Franco Prussian Photos and I was wondering what rules you use for that basing system. I have some but not painted them yet as i carnt decide on rules. I would recommend It miniatures for WW1 with the EwM trenches. |

The mailman just brought my first order from Irregular miniatures (1914 Germans) and they are excellent figures; nicely sculpted, realistically proportioned, and (importantly) compatible with the plastic figures in my collection already. Ian is a very nice guy to deal with too! |
mashrewba | 14 Jul 2015 12:25 p.m. PST |
Thanks Ned. The game is a super quick recreation of Waterloo I did at school recently. With the 28mm stuff I use mainly Field of Battle but the basing works for Black Powder, Neil Thomas 19th Cent -most things really. The 15mm stuff was based up with the idea of using DBX/Horse, Foot and Guns but I could put two bases together and use FOB for those as well. |
