A first outing at our club for these venerable age of sail rules. link |

Interesting reading – I think you captured the essential impact of the card/dice based system very well :) |

Thanks for the description Kaptain, I'm thinking about which new rule sets I want to look in to, so I appreciate this kind of posting. – James |

Seconded, I was thinking about getting this rules set now I'm sold on the idea. I like the sound of the friction created by the movement system, sounds like it gives a feel of the problems of fleet combat. |

Always looking for new rules. Why do we do this? So thanks for the information on the rules. Be safe Rory |

The complaint we had from at least on player is the initiative can shift very heavily in one player's favour. If this happens at a key point in the game then the other player pretty much sits and watches their ships get taken apart with very little chance of reply. This is essentially what happened in the game – the British got a couple of double moves and battered the French – by the time the French got their corresponding double moves they had nothing effective in range to make use of them. Now I've played enough games of FLOB not to be worried by this, but it makes it hard to 'sell' to new players. |

Very nice looking game, what ships were you using? Regards, ~Brian |

Hi Brian, They are venerable (and cheap) Navwar models I bought some 30 years ago. They had a repaint about ten years ago. |

Just noticed on the A&A Game site there is a new version of FLOB available, 5.0. Wondering if there any significant changes to the rules? Have had many great battles with version 4, really the best rules available for this period. Regards, Mark |

Do I have to go to the U.S. outlet to get the rules from the U.K. A & A games? Be safe Rory |

Can be purchased here, pdf or print, on sale til Jan 2nd: link |

Thanks Caenyx, But I live in the U.K. and to sent to the U.S for them would be so costly £'s to $'s bank charges etc. So that is why I asked. Be safe Rory |

Great game report Kaptain! First time for me on your site, very nice. I especially like your "Nelson vs. Godzilla" rule modifications. This makes me wonder if it would be possible to game the "Temeraire" books of author Naomi Novik where England and France have dragon "aerial" corps along with their navies. That would be really interesting! (And I just happen to have a squadron of dragons!) What do you think, possible? Regards, Vol |

Rory & David, I just picked up the Form Line of Battle rules set from the Wargame Vault (PDF download Rory). They have some really good sales going on today like Fire As She Bears! – 2nd Edition (2.1)for only $7.50 USD plus a bundle pack with the core rules and a Trafalgar 3 scenario pack for $12.50 USD. Lots of other rule set sales as well for Naval gaming. link Regards, Vol |
