Painted T-80 from QRF and Peter Pig soviet infantryman for size comparison. I used Knarloc Green/Loren Forest as hull main colour and for highlights I used Straken Green and Nurgling Green. Note that gunmetal grey round spot on the right side of the turret is not a miscast, but battle damage, accidentally made by me. Enjoy!

Great paint job. However, if you are going for the earlier Soviet green paint job, I think the track guards, at least the middle plates, are rubber, and should be black (or covered in e!)
More recently, when they graduated to camo patterns they also pimped them up with tin or fibre plates guards, which were also painted in camo patterns. |

Well done man. Love the look of Soviet armour, and your paint job is excellent. |

Plenty of examples of painted side skirts. Not rubber ones, in service at least. Quite apart from painting rubber being an exercise in futility when the plates are attached to a mobile platform, military grade weather proof oil based paint and rubber don't mix! The second photo you show, for example, the plates are the later tin or fibre plates. As for the first, I think thats a classic case of 'Gateguarditus' – that vehicle ain't going anywhere anytime soon! I suppose it is possible that they produced the rubber in green originally, I don't know
..Anyone? |

As for the first, I think thats a classic case of 'Gateguarditus' True. That's the artillery museum in St Petersburg, Russia (good museum, worth a visit – I did donate some of our models to them last time I was there, so would be interested in knowing if they ever made use of them) What I was really getting at was that if you do an image search for T-80, that photo you put up is the only image showing black skirts, and that one is clearly not going anywhere either :-) I could be wrong, but I thought even where they have replaced the sides with other harder material, the skirt over the very front of the tracks is still rubber, and seems to be painted?

St Petersburg eh? Jealous! Yes perhaps. I think the point I was making was that in the early days of th T80, when the Soviets painted their tanks green overall, they were still very much rubber skirts that were left black. The fancier skirts came later go with the later camofladge paint schemes, in general. I'm thinking of the first half of the 1980's here, and the T80B artwork in Steven Zaloga's Vanguard 152, p. 9. Of course there are always exceptions! |

Yep. Bit dated but an excellent museum, with lots of hardware on display that you can get right up close to. Last time I was there they has a complete ball dedicated to Mikhail Kalishnikov. Sadly, that was strictly 'no photos'. The Kyiv museum is also terrific, but then I did have the benefit of my wife having 'friends' which is how I ended up on top of the BTR, and sat in both the back and cockpit of the Hind

Hate to say it but looks like you've glued the tracks on back to front. |
