I know there werent too many battles during Henry VIII's rule, compared to say Henry V,but are there any good books about battles England had during his reign, excepting the osprey book of course? Also, are there any classics of early renaissance warfare someone can recommend, especially any about the French king's invasion of italy? |

Henry VIII and the Invasion of France, Chas. Cruickshank. I just picked this up, and have not had a chance to read it. The Art of War in Italy, F.L. Taylor The Italian Wars, Mallet and Shaw, both these books have early chapters devoted to Charles' invasion of Italy. |

mallett and shaw is a good overview, and one of the very few in english which I have seen which attempts to put all of the Italian wars into context together. Taylor is available for free on the internet via google books, I think – its quite old, and is similar to Oman's 16th century, from memory. HTH |

For Henry VIIIs campaigns this book is excellent and goes into great detail about the skirmishes and raids in France and Scotland in the 1540s: link His army is also covered in detail in : link The army of 1513 is well covered in Cruickshanks book: link The following is good on Henry's use of Foreign Troops and how much they cost him!: link The Earl of Surrey was one of the Commanders during the Boulogne Campaign and was defeated in a small pitched battle by the French, its covered in this biography: link Elis Gruffydd provides entertaining first hand accounts for the 1520s and 1540s: link link both are cheaper here: link For the Italian Wars in general I would agree the Mallet and Shaw book is a great overview, its hard to find a book that covers the whole conflict and they do a pretty good job. Which French Kings invasion do you mean, Charles VIII, Louis XII and Francis I all lead troops into Italy? |
