I do have to say that I find the Gun Motor Carriage T28E1 a very impressive looking vehicle wink grin. Robert

One tactic I read somewhere that they would fire the fifties first at a German plane when out of range. That would make the pilot come closer, thinking it's only heavy mg AA gun, then firing both the fifties and the 37 at it.

Germans captured at least one in Tunisia

Captured US T28E1 based on this photo

Now I`ve studied the photo carefully and can`t find any evidence on the twin .50cal water cooled HMGs, I have therefore assumed the Germans stripped them after running out of ammo :/

The chassis is a Raventhorpe – Ready to Roll M15, the gun is the Zvezda Soviet 37mm (modified with a new base), I head-swopped the Raventhorpe halftrack crew using their own seperate heads, the gun crew are AB; The "Ben Hur" trailer is the Airfix one much modified with added stowage and netting.

I have tried for over 15 years to get one of the micro armour companies either US or UK to produce this vehicle in my scale.

I would love to see it in 1/600. Robert

What's the difference between the T28E1 and the M15 MGMC?

Leadgend22 Apr 2013 8:07 p.m. PST

The T28E1 used the water cooled M2 HMG and was an open mount. The M15 used the air cooled M2 HMG and enclosed the mount in a wraparound gunshield.

See link for pics etc.

Also, the T28E1 had the .50's mounted on top of the 37 mm where as the M15 had the .50's mounted under the 37 mm.

They were still using some T28E1s in Korea.

I was recently at a military vehicle rally and a guy was there with one of these halftracks. He had done a beautiful restoration but unfortunately he was missing the turret. He told me that he found someone who has a "new old stock" turret (meaning that it was put in storage when it was new and it has never been used), but the owner wants $70,000 USD for it.
