Get your battlepods and Vertechs here!

SodaPop and Palladium (no coolmini)

Trying to think positive about this one, but something is making me nervous. Not sure what.

Glenn M18 Apr 2013 5:38 p.m. PST

I'm voting for that fact that it will likely see a 6 month delay. So just add that to your estimate and you'll be fine.

PJ Parent18 Apr 2013 6:04 p.m. PST

$20 USD for one miniature….. I have trouble with that through Kickstarter. Great looking though.

Pictors Studio18 Apr 2013 6:12 p.m. PST

You can get two miniatures for $20 USD or 6 for $25 USD or 1 for $20 USD, surely not all miniatures are going to be the same price and from the looks of it they are pretty great miniatures.

darthfozzywig18 Apr 2013 6:14 p.m. PST

I so want to believe this, but the Palladium part makes me wary.

*kicks it to some Minmei tunes*

(kidding. Her screeching makes even Invid cringe)

Ivan DBA18 Apr 2013 6:43 p.m. PST

Looks pretty awesome so far. I might go in on this one.

Garand18 Apr 2013 6:47 p.m. PST

So if you have trouble trusting Palladium but want to participate, they have a $15 USD pledge level and you get a special Rick Hunter VF-1J. I don't think that is so bad…

Damon.

Generalstoner4918 Apr 2013 7:16 p.m. PST

Ah geez… So tempting.

Broadsword18 Apr 2013 7:24 p.m. PST

It's already at 200%+ of goal. I'll just sit back and wait for it to hit the shelves. At roughly 1.75 inches tall, the Veritech fighter in battroid mode will be useful for other games.

Paragonicnova18 Apr 2013 8:01 p.m. PST

Much better deal than the Ironwind stuff, thats for sure

But yea Palladium means it might be better to throw away their rulebook and use something else. Is Mekton any good?

Also if you dont like the "interesting business history" of Robotech……..

Caesar18 Apr 2013 8:50 p.m. PST

Stage fright, go away…

I have never liked KS, but this really tempts me.

Mike at Work 218 Apr 2013 9:37 p.m. PST

soda pop is doing the KS and the game, but they have to do it as a sublicense from PB, wince PB hold the robotech gaming (non-electronic) from Harmony Gold. if PB was doing it, they would release a rulebook and 4 destroids, then the rest would be placed on hold while kevin resculpted everything he got from the sculptors….

Charles Marlow18 Apr 2013 9:49 p.m. PST

The minis look good. When you make a pledge do you pay right then?

Augustus18 Apr 2013 10:57 p.m. PST

The rules are nothing new (of course..when is that ever the case?).

They are apparently shooting for 1/285.

The ravens come home to roost indeed. The grand daddy of the giant combat mecha craze reappears despite weird American management.

I have to admire it. There has never been a more promising franchise that has taken so many black eyes as this one.

I do wonder what might spawn if this took flight and landed in Japan. Big West might finally wake up.

Princeps18 Apr 2013 11:09 p.m. PST

Erk, I'm in, big time.

Dynaman878919 Apr 2013 3:38 a.m. PST

> The minis look good. When you make a pledge do you pay right then?

You pay when the KS is funded, if they make their goal on the date specified that is when you pay.

> I do wonder what might spawn if this took flight and landed in Japan. Big West might finally wake up.

Japan has had plenty of Macross stuff since the show was released, and Macross-7, and a couple years back when Macross Frontier was released. They need RT stuff about as much as they need a black eye.

religon19 Apr 2013 5:40 a.m. PST

This compares to a Krispy Kreme doughnut laced with rat poison. I may eat it anyway.

haywire19 Apr 2013 6:47 a.m. PST

To be more specific, you pay on Monday May 20, 10:00pm EDT. You can increase or decrease your pledge before then as they introduce/unlock more add-ons.

Broadsword19 Apr 2013 7:53 a.m. PST

Mekton is a great mecha wargame wrapped in a very good RPG. I wish they'd do a wargame stand alone version, but it's easy enough to strip away the RPG elements.

Personal logo Dances With Words Supporting Member of TMP Fezian19 Apr 2013 8:03 a.m. PST

I could go for a more 'detailed' version/versions of the SDF-1, 2 and 3…not to mention the main ships from 'Southern Cross'….but I prefer 'fleet action' to fighter unless it's retro or SW…..

Didn't some chap used to sell SDF/ARMD etc small scale/fleet action ships? I loved the Legoiss? fighters from 3rd segment of Robotech 'trilogy'….

Spudeus19 Apr 2013 8:05 a.m. PST

I think the minis will be incredibly cool. . .they're a bit vague on the (ambitious!) mechanics tho.

PygmaelionAgain19 Apr 2013 8:15 a.m. PST

Some friends and I were just hashing over how cool the "Unseen" battlemechs were…

I pledged, and if these figures are the size I think they are, they'll be joining my old copy of the battletech 3050 tech readout and all the new soft plastic mechs from the 20somethingth anniversary battletech set.

Palladium's name is front and center on the Kickstarter, so I'm out.

Who asked this joker19 Apr 2013 9:35 a.m. PST

Palladium's name is front and center on the Kickstarter, so I'm out.

What's wrong with Palladium Press?

Greg B19 Apr 2013 10:05 a.m. PST

Does anyone ever look at these and go "who cares about the rules? Just get the damn models done."

There are already so many possible rules out there, but the models/figures are rare/hard to come by (I speaking here specifically to Macross/Robotech). I've never understood why it has been so hard to see models/figures for this seting to come to the marketplace.

I'm wary of Kickstarters generally, and doubly so with Palladium involved. It would be neat to see actual models/figures actually for sale. Will believe it when I see it.

Dynaman878919 Apr 2013 10:21 a.m. PST

> I've never understood why it has been so hard to see models/figures for this seting to come to the marketplace.

That's easy, the rights for them were a legal mess for a long time.

haywire19 Apr 2013 1:38 p.m. PST

Why are the selling phalanx with a spartan when it shares the same legs with a tomahawk and defender? Why not make the three a single kit.

I guess I will end up with extra torsos for destroyed destroids… OR I could use them as PDS for a SDF-1 table.

Tim White19 Apr 2013 1:39 p.m. PST

Here's an interesting interview on this topic:

Sergeant Crunch19 Apr 2013 2:16 p.m. PST

The fact that Soda Pop is involved instead of just Palladium is the only thing that is making me want to throw money at this. Not so interested in the rules as I am the figures as I have my own ideas for rules. Don't get me wrong, I'll look through the rules, but doubt I'll use them.

darthfozzywig19 Apr 2013 3:20 p.m. PST

Does anyone ever look at these and go "who cares about the rules? Just get the damn models done."

Better question: is there anyone who doesn't? ;)

I agree: Soda Pop's involvement makes me consider this.

GypsyComet19 Apr 2013 7:08 p.m. PST

'What's wrong with Palladium Press?"

The owner, chief bad writer, re-writer, credit stealer, whiner, and bombast, who's initials are the same as the site we are discussing. He has been all that is bad about gaming since long before it was bad about the rest of gaming.

When this game's components hit the parts dealers and second hand sales on eBay I'll consider it, but I won't give Palladium the satisfaction of a sale.

Shame that Soda Pop has to deal with them to make this happen. I hope Palladium doesn't screw them out of their share, especially since they appear to be doing most of the heavy lifting.

Lfseeney19 Apr 2013 10:28 p.m. PST

No Cool Mini is a great thing though.

MacrossMartin20 Apr 2013 5:25 a.m. PST

THROW MONEY AT THIS, PEOPLE!!!!!!

The sixteen-year-old me turned up at my door last night, and threatened to kill me if this game didn't happen, and I didn't send at least a dozen copies of the starter set back to 1989.

BTW, I know KS gets a lot of stick, and I confess, I am no fan of the Palladium RPG system. Beyond that, I cannot comment. (Because I just don't know!)

But in the cravengames.com interview he says:

CG: First off, Minmei or Lisa Hayes?

KS: Oh, I'm a Lisa Hayes guy. I like women who are mature. [Laughs] As simple as that.

- So, now I have to give the man some credit, don't I? ;)

Glenn M20 Apr 2013 8:09 a.m. PST

MacrossMartin, I'm beyond tapped out at the moment, but really hope to throw more money at it than I already have. Trying to figure out how to raise additional funds. Hmm, how many kidneys do I have?

jtkimmel20 Apr 2013 10:20 a.m. PST

I have the DVD's, the RPG books, all the novels, various model kits. I guess I need to get in on this too.

looks like the NinjaDivision guys will be the next in a long line of companies sued by Kevin Sembieda and Palladium – industry veterans know to stay away from Palladium and their litigation happy on retainer legal team

mdauben22 Apr 2013 8:32 a.m. PST

You pay when the KS is funded, if they make their goal on the date specified that is when you pay.

I guess I'm still a bit hazy on the whole KS buisness model. As I understand, if I pledge $80 USD I get the boxed set for no further cost when it comes out? I guess my concern is, what if it never comes out? What guarantees are involved in pledging to a KS? I'd gladly fork over the $80 USD for that sweet looking box set, but I'm just worried about giving my money away for vapor ware.

GypsyComet22 Apr 2013 9:35 p.m. PST

"I'm just worried about giving my money away for vapor ware."

That is certainly a risk with any Kickstarter. I consider it an acceptable risk when some companies are involved, and an unacceptable risk for others.

mdauben23 Apr 2013 8:50 a.m. PST

Oh, well. I went home last night and watched the first disk of the original Macross series and realized I was doomed. So, I've gone ahead and committed to the box set. I just hope I won't regret it. (fingers crossed)

Caesar24 Apr 2013 8:52 a.m. PST

Did anyone else who watched the rules demo video think that it looks a little too simple?

Glenn M24 Apr 2013 9:08 a.m. PST

I dunno, it looks alright to me so far, a bit like every other game in the world, but lets face it they generally are all the same.

mdauben24 Apr 2013 12:20 p.m. PST

Did anyone else who watched the rules demo video think that it looks a little too simple?

I don't know. Without actually playing a few games its hard to say, but there seemed to be a fair amount of details there. Certainly not at the level of BattleTech, but not a bad balance for larger scale games.

Honestly, though, I'm not too worried about the rules. I'm willing to buy this just for the miniatures! ;-)

Spudeus24 Apr 2013 1:16 p.m. PST

Same here, ever since I was a wee lad I've wanted to 'play out' the massive ambush/battle sprung by Khyron on Mars. These minis would let me conceivably do that – and I can pick from dozens if not hundreds of appropriate published/house rulesets.

ekessler50724 Apr 2013 2:01 p.m. PST

How are most folks planning on using these miniatures for gaming …
a) Like the title says, as RPG enhancers, likely low miniature count on the table, but high detail in their actions, and much record keeping, etc.?
b) Many, many miniatures on the table, little detail in their actions, little or no record keeping, etc.?

jtkimmel24 Apr 2013 6:52 p.m. PST

Did anyone else who watched the rules demo video think that it looks a little too simple?

It reminded me a bit of the Axis & Allies ship game.

Caesar25 Apr 2013 6:52 a.m. PST

I realize it's just a quick demo, but I was hoping for something a bit more interesting or tactical, more engaging. The dice pool looks good, but there are plenty of basic move and shoot type rules out there already. I think there is room for improvement, such as different fire modes for weapons.

jtkimmel25 Apr 2013 10:59 a.m. PST

The video is not much to go by really, he mentioned the battlepods having a special jump move but he didn't touch on what the various modes of the Valkyries can do (just mentions that they have more weapon systems available), what weapons or abilities the Destroids have, etc. I'm sure more info will come out in time.
