Certainly this movie will bring a few more moments of giant monster joy to light…are you guys looking forward to it or think it may be more hype?

I have found a few preorders for the 6"-7" action figures…whew, a little out of reasonable price range…hopefully the Mal-Wart treatment will result in 4" decent priced figures lol :)

I have high hopes for the movie and for bringing new life and blood to the kaiju gaming community.

I'm trying to keep my expectations low, so I can be pleasantly surprised. Decently priced toys would be a major bonus.

GiantMonster18 Apr 2013 3:46 a.m. PST

Its got robots and monsters fighting each other. I don't need to expect anything else to enjoy the movie. :)

As for toys, I'd like figures that are durable enough to be used in gaming. I have found that many of those highly detailed figures look great, but aren't very durable, so I'm not getting my hopes up. I do hope Bandai at least gets the toy license for Japan. Some vinyl figures of those robots would be awesome.

Has there been any full body shots available of the monsters or whatever the "bad guys" are? You see glimpses in the trailer, but not much.

I'd rather be surprised though, so maybe I don't want to know.

I used to feel the same way before I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now I'm not willing to make quite such a sweeping statement.

Well, I have faith in Guillermo del Toro, and expect it to be 'out of the box' but spectacular. The only thing really worrying me is Hollywood compromising his vision and tacking on unnecessary story elements. I've been assuming Bandai will get the rights to produce a variety of figures, even if it somehow flops in the US it will be huge in Japan!

I looked for full body shots of the kaiju but mostly it is fan based art and these couple shots

Is that a good thing or bad thing? Evangelion rocked up till the last episode or two (and the second batch took care of that problem).

As for this movie, with all the other interesting movies coming out I'll wait for the DVD release. A pity, since I like Guillermo's work – but there is other stuff I know I want to see.

Dude…dude.

If there were a movie that would be much better on the big screen it would be a kaiju movie!

…(shakes head)…dude…

:(

First three models (ship date may be as early as June) $80 USD

It's still cheaper than Games Workshop and I still buy those figures. Clearly not meant for kids. At 7" tall they would still be small for 15mm figures but for 15mm sci-fi gaming I think they would be awesome!

javelin9818 Apr 2013 8:06 a.m. PST

Huh… I haven't even heard of this movie. Interesting…

Space Monkey18 Apr 2013 11:00 a.m. PST

Those robots don't grab me… I might as well use my Patlabor/Gundam models. The creatures might be of use.

28mmMan18 Apr 2013 1:32 p.m. PST

The Jagger's/robots are a bit soft in design, I would use guyvers first lol :)

Space Monkey18 Apr 2013 5:22 p.m. PST

Oooh… hadn't considered using Guyver stuff in kaiju games… I've got a bunch of the old ones, about 4 inches high.

Lucky…damn lucky…(shakes fist at the gods…not my fist mind you, well it is mine as in I own it…it is a manikin hand/fist)…lucky…lol

:)

The only thing really worrying me is Hollywood compromising his vision and tacking on unnecessary story elements.

I've heard the studio is asking for some scenes with Raymond Burr to be CGIed in.

And if it looks short on character developement: Who Cares. Its not suppose to be an Oscar contender. Its just suppose to be fun, loud and full of Kaiju battles

GiantMonster30 Apr 2013 3:57 a.m. PST

It looks like we are getting a good variety of kaiju in the film.

Pacific Rim is one of only two movies I plan on seeing in the theater this year.

28mmMan30 Apr 2013 5:27 a.m. PST

Yes indeed I made out at least 5 different giants :)

28mmMan30 Apr 2013 8:29 a.m. PST

I was watching it again…hard to make out all the details of course, so there may be some overlap…

Knife-head
Spike-arm crawler
"gorilla" (by shape and movement)
Flyer
Shield-head with many small eyes

:)

We are wringing hands and gnashing teeth in anticipation for the monster related toys.

sharkbait30 Apr 2013 5:59 p.m. PST

Booyah! Looking forward to this one. I hope there's some good toys for gaming.

MisterFox07 May 2013 2:10 p.m. PST

According to Entertainment Earth, it looks like there's a HeroClix line in the works.

28mmMan07 May 2013 4:26 p.m. PST

That would most welcome!

Willtij13 Jun 2013 7:02 a.m. PST

Less than a month before Pacific Rim premieres. Heroclix line coming out soon as well (I've seen expected arrival dates as soon as June 26).
