Hm, I don't know much about this convention. How large is it compared to, say, Fall In and the like?

47Ronin21 Apr 2013 9:38 a.m. PST

NJCon is only in its fifth year, Lord Ashram, so it is much smaller than Fall In, which has now been around for a while and could draw support from the other two HMGS (East) conventions (Historicon and Cold Wars) when it started. In those five years, NJCon has already outgrown its original location. We'll see if that trend continues.

NJCon has had an attendance in the hundreds, mainly from the Northeast, with a decent selection of games and dealers (Brigade Games, On Military Matters) from which to choose. For a young convention, it has pretty solid GM support. Some GMs who no longer wish to attend Historicon have moved over to NJCon instead. For them it's a 2-3 hour drive (and home for dinner) versus a 5-6 hour drive to run the same game.

Look for the PEL on line. You may like what you see.

I'll take a look! Thanks for the info… I am not very connected in the world of the conventions so I have very few frames-of-reference:) What is the vendor situation usually like?

Thanks!

NJcon5 Dispatch from the Front21 Apr 2013 7:23 p.m. PST

The convention hall has 16 vendor booths/slots as presently configured (vendors usually occupy 1-3 booths). We may have to consider expanding our vendor marketplace in 2014 if we experience the same growth we did in 2012.
Here is this years vendor list which was sold out prior to March.

Here's the main web page. Take a look around to see what we have going on.

when is the pel going to be up

NJcon5 Dispatch from the Front05 May 2013 8:12 p.m. PST

Having some minor difficulties with the games database populating to the PEL. We have been working on this over the weekend and it should be resolved shortly.

There is an excellent variety of games that have been submitted and at present count we have around 45+ games with more games coming in daily.

We hope to have the PEL posted in a day or so… thank you for your patience!

Glad to see that the PEL is available for review.

An interesting mix of games. Add in the vendors who will be there and you have the makings of a nice day (or two) of gaming and shopping.

essayons710 May 2013 6:40 a.m. PST

Looking forward to it!!!!

Check out the game sign-up feature when you pre-register for the convention. This is new for this year.

Sign up for two games at the time that you register.

NJcon5 Food Concession Improvements!

The single biggest concern we consistently heard last June was regarding the food quality, limited food options and costs. This therefore became our single biggest area for improvement in 2013.

If you plan to attend early next month you will see "Oink and Moo BBQ" set up just outside the front door. They were recently featured on "Good Day New York". O&M servers will provide gaming table service (extremely tournament friendly) and will be serving breakfast lunch and dinner.

We also plan to make runs to "Harold's New York Deli". If you've never sampled "Harold's" be prepared to share these wargamers sized portions!

Pizza/Italian eatery options will also be in the mix.

The Convention Center has allowed us to provide these options to you and we expect to reduce costs on many snacks and drinks sold on the premises.

We hope these improvements will further enhance everyone's gaming experience!

See you there on June 7th & 8th.

A 20% pre-reg increase?

Perhaps the move of Historicon is having an impact. We'll see.

See you Saturday.
