A real shame and he was far, far too young. I loved his sculpting style as well as his prolific paint jobs.

He'll be missed.

His work on the Perry's site is off the charts.

Rest in peace.

jpattern212 Apr 2013 6:54 a.m. PST

Very sad. His painting was inspirational (not to mention intimidating). I've saved many photos of his work on my hard drive. Some of his faces especially looked like photographs of real people. Amazing.

Condolences to his friends and family.

RIP, sir.

The notice from the Perry website:

It's with the deepest sadness we have to report that Jim
Bowen died suddenly on Tuesday 9th April. He leaves a partner and young son.

He was a great friend and figure painter/sculptor who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. As you can see from our site he's done the majority of our collection, not only for the site but also personal collections. Rest in Peace.

I have a large army that Jim painted for me in the early 90's, fantastic work and a really nice guy, that army will be even more special to me now.

Best wishes to his family, he was far too young.

He'll be up there painting Cherubim and Seraphim and detailing the wing tips on Archangels I trust. RIP but paint on!

Monophthalmus14 Apr 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

I'm in complete shock – I was speaking to Jim only last week. He's been painting a British and French Napoleonic army for me over the last year or so; he was dreading the next batch of figures, which were the British Highlanders (not a fan of painting tartan!)
I can't believe it – such a tragic loss. So so sudden and heart-breaking….

Lardie the Great14 Apr 2013 12:35 p.m. PST

Met him a couple of times and he always came over like a great, straight forward and stand up bloke, he painted a lot for a friend and they always looked fantastic, I studied them for hours trying to get an insight into his style. A huge loss to the hobby world and great loss to his family and friends, my condolences to his family.

HammerHead14 Apr 2013 9:47 p.m. PST

I have to admit that I have admired his work for years and the community has definately taken a hit.

Prayers go out for his loved ones and for their loss during this tragic time.
