I'm looking for suggestions, guys..

I have the ORCDeF ships from Bergstrom and i'm stuck as to how Im going to paint them as I'm not keen on the orange scheme from the website.

It's just all those large flat pannels.. I've had a mind blank for 3 days now. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Do them in a grey-white scheme with blue and red/vermillion accents.

How about some 'dazzle' schemes?

My fleets include a Kravak (GZG) squadron in flat lime green, white UN ships, grey Eurofed's and black Solar Union fleet- I undercoated the SU and just dry brushed them in dark grey over the black and picked out some detail in yellow and white…..gives them a menacing look on the table.

How about an overall Hunter's green with wavy black-green "tiger stripes?"

Engine vent interiors in bright gold, with black weapon ports and any windows done in metallic bright green with black outlining.

Hope this helps!

There's a nice tutorial for Homeworld-style ship "camouflage" here:

I'd look at some Terran Trade Authority Ship images. TONS of awesome ref there.

Agreed – steal some ideas from Chris Foss, who did a lot of the best TTA stuff.

And I say that having been responsible for those orange ships on the Bergtrom site. Still better than bare metal. :)

Terran Trade Authority ships for your consideration:

Nothing wrong with brightly-finished starships IMHO…*evil grin8

Though I tend to be a bit more conservative in my starship paint schemes:

Pick a light and dark color, see if they complement each other. If so, use one on the body, and the other on the panels. Light color on the panels, to emphasize, or dark on the panels to demphasize the panels. Just my 2 cents. – ZG

Not strictly on – topic, but may be helpful:

P.S. I didn't know about the Bergstrom ships before, but now I want some!

Excellent chaps! lots of awesome ideas, you've all kick started my imagination back in gear. I'll post a picture of two of the final results when i'm all done!

@Chief Lackey Rich, If I may put my foot in it some more, i've just finished a large unit of blood letters, and i'm not sure I can face any more reds/oranges. You're quite right though, paint is better than bare metal and you *have* done a good job on them.

I guess before you starting painting the spaceship/spacefighter/gunship/freighter, here are some questions you can ask yourself to determine the paint scheme:

1) What is the purpose of the ship? Freight? War? Stealth?
2) What World is it in? Mars [Red scheme], Jungle? Ice world?
3) Is it Commercial? Large product endorsements? Flat greyish panels for ultilitarian purposes?
4) Military?

I think websites with pictures of naval shps, fighters, or even sci fi art might help!
