I've decided to go with 20x10mm bases, minimal flocking and a colored label at the bottom, explaining what the unit is.

The Russians look good already. What I need to do now is choose a color scheme for the Germans' labels.

I'm looking for a mix of legibility and attractiveness. Please tell me which scheme you think is the best. Top panzer is #1 and bootm panzer is #5. (Note that #5 panzer still needs to be flocked.)

Either 1 as the grey just smells German to me, or 5 as it seems less obvious.

No 1 for sure – easy to read, blends in well and – I agree with our friend at Angel Barracks – just cries out "German"

Quite like No 4 blends in nicely with the base so that you only see the writing.

Great job with the flocking – looks like perfect scale to me.

I personally like #2 because it seems easier to read. Hard to argue with the chaps above saying #1 cries out German…

#2 for ease of reading since these are such small models and they will be hard enough to read from 3 feet away. Can you print the lettering in white?

Macunaima25 Mar 2013 8:56 a.m. PST

I can't print the lettering in white, unfortunately.

I'd go for 5, the colour blends well with your flocking choice, but writing is still very legible.

No 2 or 5,for legibility.I recently made order dice for Bolt Action from wooded blanks.I painted the Axis very light grey,Allied very light green, and used a fine ink pen to do the lettering.Tried them out last night, and while you could read the lettering easily, the colors are so light they got a little "washed out" under overhead lights,it was a little difficult as to who's color came up when first pulled from the cup.

Thanks, guys!

I've ultimately gone with #1, with a few modifications.

People seem to like its color here and on my blog, but complain that it's too dark. Most of the comentary above remark on #2 and #5's visibility. So what I've done is make #1 a few shades lighter.

I wish I had spaced out the lables better, as some folks suggested. That will be addressed on my next label print.

I went with the contrasting color instead of a blending color because I think that my Russians look right spiffy on the table. It also makes the stand "pop" more at three feet distance. So the gray-blueish labels should do this for the Germans.

I'll be posting final results pictures some time in the next few days
