The Battle of Cassano was fought in northern Italy on 16 August 1705 between the Imperial army commanded by Prince Eugene of Savoy and French under the Duke of Vendôme. I have gradually been building up my Imperial contingent with a view to fighting the battle and finally managed it on the weekend, substituting some of Dave Allen's white-coated Dutch and Danes for some of the Austrians.
Probably because Marlborough or the English were not present, there is very little information (in English at least) about the battle. In a nutshell, Prince Eugene led an Imperial army into Italy in 1705 to keep the duke of Piedmont on side.
Eugene launched a vigorous attack to seize the crossings over the Adda river in Lombardy.

The battlefield was criss-crossed with small streams and irrigation ditches which were held by a small force commanded by Vendôme's incompetent brother Phillipe, known as the ‘Grand Prior'. Vendôme had to rush to his rescue and after a very hard fought action with high casualties on both sides the French were victorious. Eugene's Prussian contingent was particularly badly mauled.

Not much to say, other than well done, beautiful, inspiring and encouraging for me to continue my Marlburian 15mm army raising. Thanks for posting!

Looks great. That second picture looks like Minifigs to me.
We have a lot of their Seven Years War figures.

Yes they are Minifgs – they are still my favourite WSS 15mm figures
