Sweet!

As an old Fletcher Pratt gamer, HMS Belfast is one of my favorite ships to command in a naval wargame.

I had a chance to visit her in 1976. Very impressive! And as part of the tour program they play the scream of a Stuka dive bomber very, VERY loud! I nearly hit the deck! :)

I saw her when I was training with the TA during our "cultural visit" to London in 2010. She's a beautiful ship.

My brother and I visited her in 1977, the week Elvis died. Still have the Airfix model.

She is a beautiful ship, like many British ships of this era.

Umm, not to be rude, but is it the custom to cheer when the king leaves the ship?

I hate to be controversial but taken overall is HMS Belfast beautiful?

Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder but to me the gap between the bridge structure and the fore funnel for the aircraft handling equipment spoils her profile. Though I must admit Belfast looks good in bow and quarter views where the gap is less evident. To my mind the two earlier groups of the Town class cruisers were the most balanced and graceful big ships built for the RN.

@ScottWashburn
I remember visiting her in 79, and the shrill piping to greet visitors aboard, but not that Stuka… Must have been shot down in the interval. wink
I do agree it was an awesome tour though. What a beautifully preserved and maintained ship, a feat all the more impressive we tried to the same with cruiser Colbert in Bordeaux. We failed, after a decade or so, it was a rust bucket that had to be towed back to the Penfeld waiting to be broken up.

@foxbat

As I recall the Stuka was part of some coin-operated demonstration at one of the AA gun mounts. Put in your tuppence and get bombed by a Stuka :)

Yup I remember the coin operated siren to; very annoying if you were trying to listen to a guide at the time.
