Saw these on another site and this bit

My thinking was that three poses of trolls is really what most wargames armies need. In terms of other stuff I do have Orcs and so on also in 15mm scale. A few packs have been released already but I've been too preoccupied to get the rest out.

Currently out are:

Orc warriors
Orcs with pikes (like front rankers in a big column)
Orc infantry command
Orc archers

Got more on hand but unreleased:

More Orc warriors
Orc Warlord
Orcs on wargs
Evil men of the east levy spearmen
Evil men of the east armoured axemen and king
Balrogs (Gothmog with his black axe and two other chaps)
Glaurung (resin casting)
The Beasts of Morgoth (giant scorpions)
Morgoth or Sauron (swappable weapons and heads -- Gothmog has Grond, or you can give Sauron a wolf-shaped helmet and a sword instead)

Bob just made the trolls for this range. Iain Colwell made most of the rest, except Morgoth/Sauron was made by Tom Meier (it's basically a 28mm figurine) and Mike Lovejoy the Beasts of Morgoth.

I went for more of an old school look on these. The Wargs don't look like hell hounds, they look like wolves with slightly more human faces (as they can talk), and the Orcs look like the Angus McBride illustrations of long ago.. They don't look like ogres, which I think is what the GW look for Orcs really is (IMHO). I like the idea of Orcs being smaller and hunched over, inferior to humans and elves in combat unless in huge numbers.

Not sure how that will resonate with gamers of today, but it's what I fancy.

As said I've been too preoccuped to release the rest, but should really get off my huge arse and get them to market!

Yes please get them released.

Yes, those are very fine! Scale?

TheCount15 Mar 2013 2:55 p.m. PST

There's mention of 15mm in the quote Doc, but also 28mm for Sauron, so perhaps the latter is just one big scary model, appropriately.

Looks interesting overall!

Regards, TC.

I'm guessing 15mm as they are to go with his 15mm orc's already out. Though if they are closer to 20mm I think they would look great in some warbands from your guy's Splintered Lands range.

doc mcb15 Mar 2013 3:47 p.m. PST

Yes, that is what i was thinking.

thumbs up

Please, please, please release these figures! Especially more of the warriors for variety. I've been wanting to build an army using these figures, but lack of variety has held me back along with the specialty figures. Do it now!

IMO Bob's figures look like the 20mm Splintered Light figures, which I love and have nearly every pack. He is the best goblin sculptor out there.

And just when I thought I was finishing up my fantasy armies…

A very cool interpretation.

I really need to order some of the orcs that are out to see how they match up to Splintered Lights Dwarfs and Wood Elves.

What is this secretive "other site" mentioned? Have a link?

Malaki the Wonderer16 Mar 2013 8:16 a.m. PST

not secret just didn't care enough to link to it but here you go link

Jojojimmyjohn16 Mar 2013 9:13 a.m. PST

Would really, really like to see the rest of this line released.

Boromirandkermit16 Mar 2013 7:32 p.m. PST

Love those Trolls. Bob Olley's stuff is always so characterful.

corporalpat17 Mar 2013 8:02 a.m. PST

Thanks. Nice discussion over at Frothers Unite! A whole bunch of great pics too!

For me, those don't really look like 15mm trolls. They appear more like Bob Olly sculpted goblins that have been subbed in as 15mm trolls.

The just don't look, to me, like they are made for 15mm.

Ooh, 15mm LotR Impetus? Or maybe just WotR in 15mm?

Logain19 Apr 2013 2:43 p.m. PST

I agree with Eli on these. Everything else I've seen in this range is excellent, and I am looking forward to matching them against Splintered Light's elves, dwarves and humans.

khurasanminiatures26 Apr 2013 9:18 p.m. PST

I adore these models but I'm not sure they scale out as 15mm. I may release them as 28mm goblin king's bodyguard and I've already asked Bob Olley to turn his talents toward making a magnificent gobbo king for them to protect. If that happens, and I think it will, Iain Colwell will make some trolls for my First Age line.

BunJen03 May 2013 5:34 a.m. PST

Any 15mm fantasy is more than welcome………I need to
O add Khurisan and SLM to my already too big collection but they don't have suppliers in the UK :-(

Cacique Caribe05 May 2013 6:11 a.m. PST

The legs look a bit stunted. Are they dwarf trolls?

Maybe it's just that the heads are too big?

Jon,

If you can shoot for Angus trolls like you did your orcs, it'd be awesome.

Provide armored and un/lightly- armored versions too, if you can.

Have these figures been released as 28mm Goblins yet? I seethe 15mm armored trolls are new sculptors.

readyplayerone01 Jan 2015 5:33 p.m. PST

Don't think they have but keeping fingers crossed that they will be.
