I recently got myself a pack of two Sopwith Pups from Valom, to see what they were like. I am now at the stage of painting them and having only ever repainted some Fokkers ( link ) I was looking for some tips. The basic question is, should I shade them? I think the colour looks a little flat, but I notice that WOW planes are not shaded, so these may look a little out of place. What, if any, shading has anyone else done? |

I used to go the traditional way but a buddy of mine does the dark undercoat. Either dark brown or black. I was surprised at how much depth the colors took on and the planes look great. Another alternative is base coat white/light grey and they paint as normal. Come back with a wash of Pledge Floor Finish and either a drop of paint or a drop of black or very dark ink; ratio of 1 tablespoon to one to two drops of ink/paint works well. I prefer not to dilute with water

Thanks Ancientsgamer, I've never tried the Pledge Floor Finish technique before, I might give it a try. |

I always shade mine! Force of habbit, but planes should look dirty if they have been flying about and in combat. |

I know what you mean DasUberSoldat, I do like weathered looking vehicles so I am leaning towards a wash! |

Thats all I do really. I do a muddy wash for around the engines and then a dark one else where. Your Pup is pretty smart btw! |

OK, I shall give that a try, thanks for the comments about the Pup. I have now added the rest of the decals and when I wash it, I think I will post up some more pictures! |
