Hello folks. I recently made my first steps into a 10mm Late Roman and Gothic Wars project I'll slowly be pushing forward on, and I wanted to share some pictures. I'm thinking units like this should work alright for Impetus, yes? Bases are 80mm by 40mm.

If you'd like to see more pictures of these units you can check out my blog at:

Thanks – James

Orange shields have a whole new meaning. Always love to see 10mm. Great basing. What materials are you using?

Thanks for the kind words guys.

BrotherSevej, the base itself is 3mm plywood from Lithko. Groundwork is a mixture of Elmer's wood filler and a few different sizes of gravel. Static grass and lichen I think are from Gale Force Nine, if I remember correctly.

Anyone with experience with the Impetus rule set? Should 80mm by 40mm bases like these be ok?

Thanks for your help – James

Whitejamest, saw (and voted for) these over at the Pendraken painting comp. That second unit is even nicer than the first. Well done sir!

Yeah I voted for them to…Great stuff

King David14 Mar 2013 10:38 a.m. PST

Those are absolutely fantastic. It's rare to see so much time and attention paid to 10mm figures. Well done!

If I may make a suggestion though: paint the edge of your bases in black instead of just leaving the natural wood color. It makes for a more clean presentation in my opinion :)

Splendid work! Shields on the top unit are really lovely.

Cheers, Simon

Thanks for the votes Harry and Steve!

King David, if you like 10mm figures with a lot of attention paid to them, you should check out the pictures on Pendraken's 2013 painting competition that just ended. Some amazing stuff this year.

80x40 will be fine for Impetus. Have a look here for a free download of the basic rules. dadiepiombo.com/basic2.html

Those are really impressive sculpts for 10mm. Very surprising. Great painting. I do find the bases too thick for my as more like display diorama.
Assyrians would rather nice in this scale. 16 figures and the arrangement looks perfect. Base also IMHO perfect for impetus.
Are the shields hand painted?

whitejamest15 Mar 2013 6:14 a.m. PST

Thanks guys, glad to hear that these will be alright for Impetus. Thanks for the link Agent Brown.

Colin, the shields are indeed hand painted. I want to be able to represent a lot of different units. I'm not going to worry about the historical deployments of those units, but I do want the variety.

What you say about the bases is fair. I know it's not to everyone's taste. I like thick bases, partly for the aesthetics, but more so because it makes them easier to pick up, which I think is better for the longevity of the models. But that's just me…
