Just got a few more Core Sets to fill out the squadrons (full 12 TIE Fighters now!)

In the latest shipment, the X-WIng models have been retooled with a bit more and crisper detail.

Could you please show a side by side comparison shot?

Yup, just got out the camera, here's the new one behind one of the originals:

Those look much better. Are the crisper models in the boxed core game yet?

Yes, I got mine from new Core Sets. Broke down and ordered online since my FLGS couldn't get any. Got a few from Miniature Market along with their deal of the day Firesprays. and a few from Cool Stuff Inc along with a stack of Dice Packs.

I don't think new X-Wing expansion packs have arrived yet, but I expect these will be in them. Targets and Barnes & Nobles may still have older Core Sets with the original version.

At arm's length, the differences don't stand out on the tabletop. (Well except for that badly glued laser on the top right wing which I'll be removing and re-gluing, but that assembly quality wasn't a problem with other earlier ones I have.)

WOW!
Those two are vastly different!
I guess it was worth waiting for the new supplier…

Are the TIEs different?

TIEs haven't changed.

And I've put answers to FAQs up on the blog: link

We put a Kessel Run falcon next to a brand new one. It looks like they are using a slightly different grey and they thinned down the wash a bit.

Hard to tell but it could be new molds as well.

Just in from BGG: the molds haven't been changed, just a much better paint job! Poking with an XActo shows the all the details hidden under a very thick coat of paint.

Ok. I live across the lake from Cool Stuff. I'll have to check them out.

vojvoda12 Mar 2013 8:32 p.m. PST

Thank God they are just better painting quality. I will pick up a few as I still need about 3 more X Wings. Guess Luke, Biggs and Wedge will have better ships.

haha shouldn't those guy have worse ships? War torn, used too often and put away wet.

Only rookies have nice paint jobs.

Nah, the director likes them better ~,~

From reading pilots memoirs of the second world war, I get the impression that the senior men in the squadron got the pick of the aircraft.

So even if a rookie turns up in a spanking new fighter fresh from the factory, they will probably find it is quickly nabbed by the squadron leader, and said rookie will be flying missions in the most worn out craft the unit has.

Interesting, I thought the Wave 2 ships I bought were a bit crisper. All are good though.

So shoot down the shiny guy first? Check…
