Evening guys Would the standard of late Peninsular Portuguese infantry (in terms of command, training etc) have been comparable with British line infantry by the end of the war? I'm asking due to having to rate them for black powder rules Thanks F |

As a rule of thumb you can rate them as good as British infantry. During the 100 Days Wellington was hoping to get some Portuguese battalions to join, him he rated them that highly. |

I would concur, and rate them as equal to the British. In campaigning terms, it is interesting to note that for the invasion of France, Wellington had the least concerns about the discipline of the Portuguese troops. |

Cacadores I'd rate slightly better than line. Line I'd rate as similar to British. |

I agree the Portuguese Infantry was as good as the British Line. A wonderful job was done by Beresford and the Portuguese. Their improvement was evident from at least 1811. Stephen |
