I am really excited about the project, and being the old fan that I am I already pledged at Razide level!

Prodos Games was kind enough to send me 5 Undead Legionnaires. Here is what you get:

Crisp cast, high level resin parts. Enough to build 5 Legionnaires in many different poses. The material seems to be sturdy and is very light. Once assembled they look like this:

I needed just a little bit of greenstuff to smooth the shoulder parts. All the rest was more or less a perfect fit.
And the very 1st Warzone Resurrection Dark Legion mini painted. I used the 30 mm round lipped base Prodos asked me to use, IMO the base is a bit too big for the mini. While painting the mini I realised how detailed and realistic (OK, as much as a far future undead soldier can be) proportioned the mini is. The head and hands are really small when compared to other minis. The comparison shot below makes it evident.

From left to right: 1st Ed Warzone Mishima Samurai, current Undead Legionnaire prototype, Space Marine and Infinity trooper.

All in all I am very exited about the new range, I am very happy that I already pledged on this project. The bases are not really my thing and the mini is a bit on the small 28 mm side, maybe a slight upscaling before going into final production is recommended. Warzone as good as it gets!

thanks for the review, nice looking model

Boy, they are a lot thinner and smaller than I thought they'd be--totally incompatible with the older models. The detail seems very shallow and lacks deep recesses. Were they difficult to paint, Agis?

Charles Marlow09 Mar 2013 7:09 p.m. PST

Yikes?! I'd have to agree with Hydra Studios sentiments. Jeez, this isn't good news for me… I'm not likely to collect them if they're incompatible with my existing collection of warzone minis.

Nice enough model in its own right. Definitely not following the old chunky style of the 90's era figs, that's for sure.

I didn't care for 85% of the original range, so the change is okay by me. I don't like the gun in that picture, but I watched a YouTube video showing the bare model, and I think its just the red paint that bugs me.

Thanks for sharing.

The gun does look like a smaller version of the SM's Bolter. And besides they are dead and withered so being alittle smaller is not a big deal for me.

The mini is infact more detailed then I like…
;)
It was not easy to paint, but if I had taken more time I could ahve shown even more Detail.

Another comparison: current Undead Legionnaire prototype and old (slightly converted) WZ Cybertronic Hero Vince Diamond

Dropzonetoe Fezian10 Mar 2013 6:04 a.m. PST

I'd rather see them look more like the older one even with the updated style. No helmet or shoulderpad or armour. The gun seems too flat and like 10% too small.

I don't need the old chunky style but want to see some of the iconic imagery.

Right now they are too walking dead. Other than the gun what makes this an Undead legionnaire over just a generic scifi zombie?

CBPIII10 Mar 2013 6:46 p.m. PST

Jeeze- Vince could just step on that guy! Thanks for the comparison shots, not sure if I'll back this or not because of the size difference with my 50+ Legionnaires…

Towards the end of the first Warzone run I thought the design and size of the minis was silly so for me the new figures are welcome.

It seems that a number of manufacturers have gone to the smaller 28s lately. Urban Mammoth, Infinity, Wargames Factory, Defiance Games all come to mind.
But I agree that those are not going to match my rather extensive collection of 1st Edition WZ.
