Despite using 6mm figures, the Polemos scenarios seem to need quite a bit of table space – accepting that these are dealing with entire battlefields, can Polemos do smaller actions (in a smaller space), such as you might get on one wing of a battlefield, or the initial contact of an advanced guard etc – i.e. is it sufficiently tactical in natue to do that?

One way to reduce space is to use smaller bases – the rules work with any base size that is 2:1. You can manage reasonably good looking bases 40x20mm and play on 2/3 the size of table.

If you use the General De Division rules, you'll find these perfect for doing smaller actions up to a Corps a side.

Hello normsmith!

Yes, the Napoleonic rules are actually two rule sets in one. One for big battles and one for smaller actions. Pick the size of the action you want to play, then pick your rules, brilliant.

Best regards,

normsmith,

It work 'okay' with a division-per-side; if you do this, then I'd advise ditching the force-level morale rules, or you can get very quick sudden-death situations. In fact, do this whenever a side only has a single division. Two divisions per side is better, but again, consider ditching the force-level morale, especially if the divisions are small.

On the other hand, you can get very realistic 'un-bloody' small actions, as one commander throws in the towel after a single battalion gets worsted…

Regards
