"Lozenge pattern camo on German aircraft" Topic

I have some excess 4-colour lozenge decal in 1/72 for top and bottom surfaces. I bought it to do an Airfix Hannover and the sheet is good for at least two more aircraft. At £7.00 GBP for the two sheets it thus works out not bad on price.

Seeing as I have a Fokker DrI and an Albatros in the stash, both Airfix, the obvious thing is to use it up on those. I've not been able to find any evidence (well, not on Wings Palette anyway) that either ever had the lozenge pattern.

Does anyone know differently?

Cannot vouch for the accuracy but here are some albatross. Since one is in the Smithsonian I would expect it to be correct.

I do not recall seeing the Fokker in this type of camouflage.

The DrI's were in factory finish of a streaky green over a sky blue. It seems that most of the Dr's were painted in personal colors though.

Phil has it for the Dr I – they were invariably finished in streaky Fokker green over light blue undersides – no lozenge at all. Lozenge pattern was commonly used on later production of the Albatros D.V, but afaik only 5-colour, never 4. The 4-colour pattern only really came into use in spring '18 or thereabouts, so is most commonly associated with late war production types, especially Fokker D.VIIs on which it was probably the most common finish.

As an additional point, the lozenege pattern on the V-Strutters was only on the wings, and the upper and lower patterns differed in color. I have peices of both in my collection and the upper are quite drab, while the lower is very pastel in shade.
