Scenario a newly established Warehouse engenhos ("factories")or trading post used to trade for Brazilwood and typically slave labour by natives for trinkets etc.

The Capitao Mor leading the Factory has got off to a bad start upsetting not only the local Tupi Tribe but also the Aimore tribe who have been recently pushed out of the interior by their more numerous and aggresive Tupi neighbours.

So the stage is set, un beknown to each other the Portuguese expect an attack, the Tupi and Aimore decide for various reasons to remove the heads, goods and any trace of the white men……

This was played using a varition of This Very Ground, it worked quite well, what we found were the bows were deadly, in hindsight I will reduce the melee of the natives as they were killlers…or it coulc have just been the dice :D

The Factory with its defenders preparing to meet an assualt, by whom they are not sure but a local christian native has tipped them off!

The Aimore Warband receive blessings and spells from their Shaman

The Tupi Likewise prepare for war thorugh ritual dancing and singing

The Portuguese Mobilise

The Aimore move up to the Factory to take captives which has now become their want

The Portuguese Militia engage the Aimore, cut down almost to a man as the natives swiftly sweep over them, the air sings with arrows

Meanwhile the Tupi attack therough the sugar fields, unwisely and are met with Musket fire

The Aimore quickly assault the compound, killing all before them

The Capitao Mor falls, deftly slashing with his Toledo blade to no avail

Rejoicing in their victory the Aimore engage their mortal enemies and route them from the field, the warlike Tupi are no match for the Aimore fearing for their lives as the hunger is upon them…literally and there will be feasting on the flesh of the slain tonight

A relief column arrives too late and decides caution is the better part of valour so retires to Sao Paulo

Ab-so-lu-te-ly AWESOME!

I'm writing an article for WSS about using Chris Peer's "Death in The Dark Continent" rules for the late 16th c. African expeditions.

A beautiful game. Thanks for sharing. Excellent terrain and the figures are Gorgeous. What does the last picture represent. Those natives don't look like the ones in the pictures above?

Cheers Gents,

The figures are mostly Foudnry (europeans and africans) and the natices are all copplestone.

I have a shed full of Eureka figures to paint then I can use these europeans as French for the Brazilwood war. It was very much like the French and indian wars for small mixed parties of natives and europeans.

The africans are slave soldiers or Quilimbos who fought for the portuguese and set up their own kingdoms at times.

Fascinating period, I once dabbled in it with Strategem minis I think they were but long sold off. Great game, looks like a lot of fun.
If you do the French, be sure to give us more reports!
