I have been playing World of Tanks and it has influenced me into making a tank for my RDF.

However, what sort of style?
I am not keen on these tanks with 4 sets of tracks a bit like feet.
Nor silky smooth ones.

Any cool looking tracked futuristic tanks out there?

FLUFF:
The tank is sold by the <insert name here> corporation as an off world easy to maintain vehicle.
So I am guessing easy reliable with plenty of panels and access points.
A solid steady eddy tank.

Inspire me up!

Prepare to be inspired: concepttanks.blogspot.com

Though, if you are taking solicitations, I am currently in the market for a futuristic M4 Shermanalike in a ~22x9x9 mm model-size range (LxWxH).

A good route to take would be to get a hull-form you like and then prepare a few alternate turrets that can range according to tech-level or desired capability. It makes it easier on you as a designer/producer but fits your in-universe paradigm of "cheap-tank/multiple needs & buyers".

Angel Barracks05 Mar 2013 11:24 a.m. PST

Some nice stuff there.

This is my fav so far, though it would have just 1 barrel.

Tom Reed05 Mar 2013 11:32 a.m. PST

That's a sweet looking tank. All you really need to do is saw one barrel off and maybe add something where the missing barrel was.

Failure1605 Mar 2013 11:46 a.m. PST

AB, if you make that with a two-barrel option (i.e., just as is without violating TM) and in a reasonable scale, I'd buy a company's worth (~14) from you guaranteed.

I had quite forgotten about the M61A5, though I really shouldn't have.

stroezie05 Mar 2013 11:49 a.m. PST

Maby something like this link
In peace time take off the weapons and bolt on the dozerblade… …hmm, come to think of it, probably more something for the Junkers.
Oh well you'll just have to make 2 then ;-)

Aye the key is getting the feel but without ripping the IP off.
I will speak with some CAD chaps next week, so far that wins.

Maby something like this link

Which one stroezie?

Mechwarrior tanks are good for inspiration :)

Hmm, for some reason I couldn't link to the picture off the tank.
Lets try this:

" IKO Armscorp, manufacturers of select protected vehicles for all your requirements"

Perhaps low profile 'assault gun-tank hunter' type, no tricky turret to maintain but with a remote weapon mount on top in a smallish mount
that stores ammo rather than crewmen……….along the lines of the Swedish S tank but with the gun on top rather than fixed out in front…….Maybe along the lines of the BTR-T……..

Actually the miniatures from the Mechwarrior game do work with 6mm.

The larger models make for perfect Super Hvy's and the smaller ones are greater for IFV's.

Here is a perfect vehicle for Orks.

Or something like this for Squats.

By far the best bit of my defence induction was not making a fool of myself trying to close assault Gurkha's in a building or miss targets within throwing distance with a scoped rifle, but the explanations of why different bits of kit are like they are.
So for instance all our major armoured vehicles are designed to be able to be transported by rail across Germany. A vital ability.
Whereas those frogs managed to drive a convey across the west of Africa and up through Mali without losing most of it to breakdowns. Their stuff while nowhere near as good has parts that can be interchanged with lorries etc.

Saying that you want tracks. So I would go with either a sci fi version of a T-72 (so very low profile, reactive armour, some sort of sci fi gun and an automated active defences suit OR something that looks like it has come out of a packing crate (what culd be more futuristic than a mail order tank?). Very blocky, maybe a turret that is pretty much half the length and the same width of the body (see the body goes in the crate, and two turrets on top, while the second crate has barrels and spares on top!). You could have some crates to go with them :)

BigNickR05 Mar 2013 9:38 p.m. PST

Something slabsided with a large bore gun reactive armor that SCREAMS "cheaply built"

Maybe a panther II turret on an m-48 hull… but covered in RA bricks…

picture

Any tank looks like it came out of sci-fi land with enough Reactive Armor on it…

Big Ian05 Mar 2013 9:43 p.m. PST

I like Hi-Mobility type vehicles like GZG Paladin, but i also like the Blower Tanks from the Slammers. However you mentioned WoT, so any of those new American T71, T69 would be pretty cool as Sci-fi tanks.

stenicplus06 Mar 2013 2:11 a.m. PST

Thos pigs are brilliant!! Traced back to the image source site but could not find if they were for sale anywhere.

Any one know?

Gaz004506 Mar 2013 7:22 a.m. PST

That mass effect wheeled tank is very nice, also the last one with the blocky chassis over big tracks.

I have S tanks and MBLT apc's in one sci if army and Brazilian EET1 Osario mbt's in another 'cos they look 'clean ' and futuristic without being outlandish and sporting double cannons etc……

javelin9807 Mar 2013 9:23 a.m. PST

AB, I could take this MBT I made for 3mm and scale it up for you:

Ot I could even give that Type 61 a shot (suitably modified to avoid IP infringement). Let me know!

javelin9807 Mar 2013 9:24 a.m. PST

@stenicplus:

I've seen that lot for sale on HobbyLink Japan (www.hlj.com). Not sure what they're called, though.

Splod8907 Mar 2013 1:44 p.m. PST

If you were to make an M61A5 I would praise your name forever. I'd be up for 14 too! Hmm, make that 15, one will need to be an ARV!

gergoy195107 Mar 2013 5:41 p.m. PST

Micheal,

the logistic guy in your colony will go nut if you get a tank that requires even more spare parts (shipping from erth is expensive).

So I would try to convince you to get your tank from the same company your purchasing your IFV and would suggest to get that nice 8 wheeled version that is a lower platform but carries a variety of turrets (he would show you pictures of the Centauro tank destroyer used by the Italian army in the 21st century)and tell you that than you get a vehicle that as the same mobility as your current IFV and use the same parts so that is engineer team will not get confused with all those various tech manuals nd hewill need less spare parts freeingmore money for the colony other projects like a gunship/dropship.

Gokiburi08 Mar 2013 12:20 p.m. PST

@Stenicplus and Javelin98,
That tank is a Hayao Miyazaki design known as "Akuyaku 1" (Bad Guy 1). HLJ has them, although they are backordered (which usually means they can get more).

Artraccoon08 Mar 2013 7:12 p.m. PST

Angel Barracks, I'm available to design you a tank. The terms would be easy and cheap…would even take payment in product instead of $$$. :)

Some examples, most are "funny's", an odd looking Lt. ACV tank, and a armored grav-tech ambulance but it might give you a general idea of my work:

I've been really wanting to design a tank mini, and see it in my own 6mm army. Come up with some stats, and the general look you want and I could do it within 2 weeks, if not sooner. If you really want one like that Fedy tank, I could design one much like it, still keep it unique and with a single or twin gun option.

javelin9812 Mar 2013 4:54 p.m. PST

Well, I went ahead and gave that M65 a shot:

Looking good. Nice and beafy front.
I like the overall shape, not to keen on the big gap between the hull and the turret though. Maybe it wont look so big on the actual model.

Covert Walrus13 Mar 2013 2:08 a.m. PST

I'll buy anything in 6mm that Javelin designs ( Already have actually – Review of the VTOL Gunship is going to the Ragnarok shortly!) though Artraccoon has some really nice ideas as well :)

Angel Barracks13 Mar 2013 2:38 a.m. PST

I will be in touch with people when I am feeling better.

I am feeling the tank love though!

:D

javelin9813 Mar 2013 6:16 a.m. PST

Thank you, CW! I appreciate that!

stenicplus13 Mar 2013 7:34 a.m. PST

Re the pigs, Ta Gokiburi.

Artraccoon13 Mar 2013 11:42 a.m. PST

That is a kick-azz job Javelin98. But Stroezie is right, please do something with that turret ring/post shot trap.

Splod8913 Mar 2013 12:44 p.m. PST

Hmm, while you're at it…
Don't suppose you feel like knocking one up in 1/72nd?
The 20mm revolution is coming!

javelin9813 Mar 2013 3:21 p.m. PST

I wasn't too crazy about that either, but that's the way the original model was designed. I can try to de-emphasize it by raising the height of the deck immediately under the turret, but I can't lower the turret at all because it'd be hitting those oversized fenders.

@Splod89: if you want it in that size, it's not much work at all to scale it up and refine some of the details. How long/wide (in millimeters) should it be in that scale, do you think?

Splod8913 Mar 2013 5:48 p.m. PST

Well the only dimensions I can find on the tank itself are that it was 11.6 metres long and 3.9 metres tall.
This translates in 1/72nd to;
161mm long
54mm tall

Unless someone with the 1/35th scale kit can get some better dimensions?

commanderroj14 Mar 2013 1:54 a.m. PST

My favourite out of those posted is the 5th down by Inari7 (apart from the bunpers on the front). I like what iappears to be a command pod on the front side of the hull, th "bulked up on steroids" hull look, and the bulky, stubby, unconventional looking gun. It looks different enough from modern designs to evoke sci-fi for me.

javelin9814 Mar 2013 6:20 a.m. PST

Here's the scaled up M61A5:

Covert Walrus03 Apr 2013 2:35 p.m. PST

Any more progress on this beast? Really hope someone does is shortly!

John d law03 Apr 2013 8:39 p.m. PST

Yeah these all look great! I have been jonesing to have a couple vehicles sculpted in 3mm to go along with some infantry I did myself. Very cool!

Angel Barracks04 Apr 2013 3:10 a.m. PST

Not yet sorry.
Missed a big trade show due to illness which meant losing out on money so I have had to cut back on CAD things as these cost the most.

One day soon though!!

Johny Boy04 Apr 2013 4:22 a.m. PST

wish someone would have a go at this in 6mm

aswars.tripod.com/id77.html

Victor Kravenhoff04 Apr 2013 11:30 a.m. PST

OMG, where can I get those!?

Artraccoon06 Apr 2013 5:29 p.m. PST

Johny Boy, you should see the rest of Makoto Kobayashi's designs…especially "AS Wars", "Venus Wars", and "Dragon's Heaven". Even his "Gundam" manga works are great.
