I was the proud recipient of Tsushima fleets for both sides in a trade on TMP a few years ago. All were pro painted with drilled out masts. However I never really got a value for them; it was a trade out of curiosity! Anyway I'm thinking of selling them now but have no idea what they are worth. Any suggestions?

I believe they are the Tsushima fleets from Figurehead @1/6000.

Cheers
Jon

What did you think the value of your half of the trade was? If your trading partner was happy with the trade he probably valued his fleets at approximately the same value. I see you are thinking of selling them. I have been thinking of acquiring the Panzerschiffe resin ships for Russo-Japanese war, but my eyes are not what they used to be and painting all those ships is daunting to me. Drop me a line at kingoftherill@yahoo.com; perhaps we could work out a deal.

I would put those on EBay. Check the price for the untainted lead and you could make that your minimum bid. Good pics should lead to a good final price. I would definitely be interested in buying those ships!

One important point to keep in mind: when you say "Tsushima fleets", exactly how many ships are you talking about, and what types?

Is it just the battleships? Battleships and armoured cruisers? Light cruisers? Destroyers and transports?

The whole battle was something like 106 ships, and any one gamer's concept of "the fleets" might be anything up to that number.

Thanks chaps.

My half of the trade was a shed load of unpainted 15mm Austrian Napoleonics that I just wanted to get rid of….

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a think before I commit to anything though.

@The Monstrous Jake – this is the fleet. I have shamelessly borrowed the image from the Blog of the individual I got them from.

The only difference being that I have put them on small FoW bases so I could a) pick them up, and b)put larger numbers on them.

Figurehead has three fleet packs for the period – Russian Far Eastern Fleet, Russian Tsushima Fleet and Japanese Navy Fleet. Assuming you only have the second two, the cost new in packaging is $117. USD Add painting of from $3 USD to $5 USD a ship, that's $250 USD to $415 USD for a combined total of roughly $370 USD to $530. USD If you have the Far Eastern Fleet also, that's an additional $185 USD to $330. USD Now, given that, they are worth what you or someone else is willing to pay for them.

Man, that is pretty expensive for 1/6000 ships. Navwar has a 1/3000 Tushima battle pack for 50 pounds.

I don't have these particular ships, but the detail and proportion on the average Figurehead 1/6000 is at least as good as the average 1/3000 Navwar, even though they're half the size (based on my 1970s-era Navwar).

With respect to the paint jobs, that depends on the buyer's personal painting standards. If the buyer is accustomed to paint to a better standard, and/or if the buyer does shape improvements before painting, the fact that they're painted would be a minus.

One of the fallouts of the sale of Figurehead was the nearly doubling of the prices across the board by the new owners. I know more than a few gamers whose plans for purchase were scotched by that.

As for placing a value on the collection: The real price is whatever someone will pay. So I'd go with some price around the retail value (or a bit less) and drop 'em ebay.

Thanks for the advice all. I've worked out the packs now.

There are 20 ships and 10 destroyers for the Russians (pack 1R02) and 32 ships and 23 destroyers for the Japanese (1J01. They're "cute" and I've enjoyed some games (when even the Russians won!!) using Quickfire.

cheers

hmmm… interesting :-)

The price increase hurts, but they are very nice models. The trick is definitely to put them on larger bases, at least enough to include a number or name.

I love mine for WWI

Charlie 1206 Mar 2013 6:30 p.m. PST

They are nicely painted and the bases are definite plus. Shouldn't have any problem moving them on ebay (might want to add another 2 close up shots to your listing, though. Always helps.). Heck, I'd bid on 'em if didn't already have both fleets.

Thanks chaps, I'm not a huge fan of eBay but c'est la vie.

The bases do help in picking them for sure, especially with sausage fingers like mine!
