My very first ACW toy soldier set! Here's a pictorial set of the BMC (Hold your sniggers :)) Union infantry figures I had fun with recently. Not a game but rather a pose and play pictorial. Let me know what you think.

The figures might be cheap and cheerful, but they have oodles of charm. I like the photo-effects too. |

Block painted, dipped, based and massed on the table I am sure these will look just Dandy!!! Cheap way of getting into a period. Good luck and look forward to seeing these painted. |

I've got a lot of BMC and they look fine when painted up, so don't worry about it. |

Didn't someone run a 1:32 scale ACW game at Historicon last year, using Fire and Fury or something like that? I know it wasn't Mr. Priest and his set. Eric |

My son and I ran a kids version of Carnage and Glory II using those figures at Historicon. we've run it at the Williamsburg Mustera few times too. |

BMC are economical and when painted they look very good. I'm running a 54mm Petersburg game at Fall In. |

BMC are crap. Lipstick on a pig. There's really no need for that kind of post. The thread might have been started by a youngster or other newcomer, and rather then making this kind of comment, it is better to encourage and support what might be someone just entering the hobby. Even if not, I still say go for it! I started out many years ago with using 54mm toy soldiers, and it was a great way to get into the hobby. |

the BMC figs do incite polarizing opinions and am ok with that. The set's my very first for ACW and I'm thinking of exploring the period, before I start exploring other products. Would owners of the BMC figs have pictures they'd like to share? I'd appreciate the inspiration. |

Dimestore Army Men figures tend to be "crap" quality, too, but block painted, Dip'ed, and matte coated, they look very respectable at arm's length. These will likely be the same. Seeing a table full of painted 54's is a treat, IMO. They can look quite lovely, with some terrain. I have gamed many historical periods (Nap's to WW II), in scales from 1/1200 (ships), to 1/32, and the all have their own appeal, but I really enjoy the 1/32 games, more than I do the smaller scaled stuff, but that's just me. Cheers! |

For the kids game, my 12 year old son (He was 10 then) didnt even paint them. We based them on 1/4 inch plywood. We painted and flocked the bases. We were trying to show something that younger children would recognize as toys and keep parents from worrying about their kids breaking something
It has seemed to work out pretty good. We had kids as young as 5 playing Carnage and Glory and having a great time. In my mind, thats what counts. |

Played my first game of "Army Men" (green v. tan) with my 7 1/2 year old son this past weekend. Used the rules "Fighting Plastic". He took to it right away. Fun! |
