Hi,

Here is my first Napoleonic French foot unit to kickstart the second half of my Waterloo project. All minis are from Perry with a mix of plastics and a metal regimental command. I quite like painting the French units as there is quite a lot more variety in the minis compared to the Brits.

Painting larger white areas was quite new to me and trying to find a good method of doing it was surprisingly hard. In the end I settled for a light grey with two layers of different whites on top finished with my usual army painter dip. Looks pretty good, but I think it's still missing something. Any comments and tips regarding this would really be appreciated!

Otherwise everything done with Vallejo and army painter products. I also decided to paint all the backpacks differently and I think the extra effort makes for a really nice effect on the finished unit.

Timely inspiration, since coincidentally I am assembling this very same box of Perry French foot. I will just use the command in the box, but like your choice. Nice painting and basing.

I can't recommend the Vallejo pale wash highly enough. Two or three layers, washed over white, and you'll never do whites the same again.

I wash the whites pale and the rest of the figure with the usual sepia a or browns.

That doesn't look like Durkin carrying the Eagle, nor Perko in command! <grin> That is my reeanctment unit, headquartered in the UK but with a global membership.

Nice job.

I really like the non-uniform look of the calfskin packs. I always meant to give that a try but never have. You may have just inspired me.

Thanks for posting.

They look great. Really nice detail work especially on the shako covers. Also echoing what Brian Smaller said those calfskin packs are a very nice touch.

Thanks for the comments!

JCBJCB: Thanks, I really need to try the Vallejo washes then. I've only tried their darker washes before and wasn't too impressed with them. That was years back though so might have changed the composition.

Nicely done, especially the backpacks, and nicely based.
