So true JBR!

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP28 Feb 2013 6:37 p.m. PST

As an aside, what Science-Fi tanks, Vtols, infantry & hovers are out there that fit style wise with these Mechs?

I would say Old Crow if they weren't down for repair.

mech dude28 Feb 2013 11:21 p.m. PST

I've only dipped my toes into the 15mm ranges so I'm not sure what the best chocies are. I like a lot of the stuff from rebel minis, old crow also has some greta tanks, and the Doe ship from Khurasan would make for an awesome Bloc vtol.

I just wanted big beefy mecha for the game to show off the details, 6mm would definately have been cheaper to make but it wouldn't look as cool for modelling.

mech dude01 Mar 2013 6:59 a.m. PST

Another round of concept art is in. These are on the alternate chasis for the light mechs. The focus for this frame is speed and sensory equipment while the previous designs are a bit more rounded general combatants. There are 3 seperate weapon load outs for each of them, but being a big meany I'm going to space them out every couple days so I can tease you guys with them. :)

I'm about 50% through revising the rules, I should have the first draft done by next friday. (or sooner)

mech dude01 Mar 2013 1:08 p.m. PST

Here's a mock up of aproximately how they will scale.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP01 Mar 2013 1:38 p.m. PST

Those look down right fantastic…and HUGE!

"I'm about 50% through revising the rules, I should have the first draft done by next friday. (or sooner)"

SWEET! Cant wait. Diggin the lights scout mechs too. Bravo.

2 questions. Will there be optionl load-outs with each model or are there going to set weapon options?

Also, since these are some BIG mechs with big weapons, Im assuming weapon ranges are going to be pretty far! Unless you are going the 40k route where all weapons are pretty much short ranged?

Cheers.

U.K.

mech dude01 Mar 2013 1:45 p.m. PST

The weapons have ranges capable of reaching for miles. So for my system if you can see it you can shoot it. There's no maximum ranges.

Weapons have an optimum range for hitting closer stuff but even those are at a pretty good distance.

You will be able to alter weapons and equipment on all frames. Some will even be able to add extra armor depending on the mechs.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP01 Mar 2013 3:45 p.m. PST

Sweet! Thanks Dude!

Splod8901 Mar 2013 4:38 p.m. PST

Love the NorAm scout Mech.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP01 Mar 2013 5:36 p.m. PST

"Weapons have an optimum range for hitting closer stuff but even those are at a pretty good distance"

Sounds like it will be fast and brutal combat!

Lion in the Stars01 Mar 2013 8:34 p.m. PST

I think the groin section of the two scout mechs looks a bit too similar… industrial espionage?

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP02 Mar 2013 4:57 p.m. PST

@Mecha Dude, any ideas what the starting $ will be for Kick starter contributions?

LordNth03 Mar 2013 4:53 p.m. PST

Looks like something right up my alley. Very cool.

Splod8903 Mar 2013 5:14 p.m. PST

It does sound like brutal combat, but from reading the background it appears most of the combat occurs among the urban sprawls. Lots of vertical surfaces and few lines of sight.
I'll be using the mechs with my 20mm Middle Eastern terrain sets, so lots of hills and large compounds for mechs to hide in and around.
I'm looking forward to statting up some of the Mechs for Tomorrow's War to face off against the Mujahideen and other Middle Eastern Forces. I wonder how a T-54 or T-72 will fare against a mech?

mech dude03 Mar 2013 5:58 p.m. PST

Uesugi: Kickstarter can be as little as $1 USD if people want. $5 USD to get the rules PDF. Contribution levels to get models will most likely be in the $25 USD-$30 range. I still have a lot of stuff to get done before it's ready to launch but I'll let everyone know as I get closer.

Rather than spam up the thread here with WIP shots I have a workblog thread on dakka if anybody wants to check on the models as they are being built.

Thanks Dude! Right up my price range! This will be the first K-starter project ive funded as well!

Those quad mechs look brutal. Not too mobile but full of firepower.

At splod, yeah without a lot of blocking terrain it sounds like the game could go pretty fast.

I still could see some good games fighting across rolling hills, farms, etc…

Medium Scout Class Mechs

Blackfrost preview, a homage to one of my all time favorite mechs :D

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP05 Mar 2013 2:25 p.m. PST

Love 'em!

BBurger09 Mar 2013 6:09 p.m. PST

I like these, especially the medium scout mechs a few posts up and the light "chickenwalker" mechs in the first post.

I especially like the right-hand medium scout one, something about square shrouds on barrels just seems more sci-fi than other weapon designs!

I'm also in the process of "un-quitting" 15mm SF, which I haven't touched in nearly a decade. Loads of shiny new stuff out there!

Grabula10 Mar 2013 5:46 p.m. PST

Mech Dude, like what you're doing so far and your concepts sound interesting. I'm excited to see what you do with it.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP11 Mar 2013 7:24 a.m. PST

Mech Dude, any updates on rules?

mech dude15 Mar 2013 11:14 a.m. PST

It's been a rather long week involving mountains of typing but the first draft of the rules is done. I'm currently working out unit profiles so that I can get playtesting underway. (I'll update you guys as soon as I'm ready).

So you have some fresh eye candy here are a pair of pics which show the stat card layout that I'll be using for units. (Neo-Bloc & NorAm)

Enjoy :)

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP15 Mar 2013 1:04 p.m. PST

Thanks for the update!

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP31 Mar 2013 7:22 p.m. PST

Any more updates?

mech dude15 Apr 2013 9:14 a.m. PST

Sorry about the lag on my updates, my typical daytime access has TMP workblocked and when I try and pop by here at night the page is offline, grr.

Here's some of the images I've had in the works since my last update. For anyone heading to Adepticon this weekend I'll be up there and trying to get some demo games in during the evenings. I'm hoping to have Kickstarter info available early next week.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2013 10:30 a.m. PST

Dropship is amazing!

Splod8915 Apr 2013 3:19 p.m. PST

Could we get some sort of scale shot?
So either a ruler or some different man shaped silhouettes? 6mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 20mm if you could?
Might really help open it up to people contemplating using your figs in a different scale.

mech dude15 Apr 2013 4:54 p.m. PST

The only figures I have are in 15mm and 28mm. So I can't help terribly much on the other scales.

Here's how it would stack up against warmachine's 28-32mm and a 15mm model.

Splod8916 Apr 2013 1:07 a.m. PST

Even just a scale ruler would be enough for me. But judging by the 15mm shot they should work nicely at 20mm.

Cergorach16 Apr 2013 3:40 a.m. PST

Don't forget that that particular 15mm miniature is 18mm tall (bottom of feet to top of the head).

13thMonkey18 Apr 2013 5:24 a.m. PST

Very nice. I am supprised this wasnt tagged for 15mm scifi as well as general scifi. Looking good. You can count on my support!

Adam name not long enough19 Apr 2013 9:43 p.m. PST

15mm is (one of) the only true scale(s)!!!

That drop ship is amazing. Will certainly be looking out for this when the Kickstarter starts.

I heart u guys.

Splod8920 Apr 2013 5:15 p.m. PST

Dude… Can I throw money at you?

McWong7321 Apr 2013 1:03 a.m. PST

Yeah, lets kickstart this puppy!

As a note, when you do start the kickstarter it would be great to have those comparison pics with figures, it will tip many guys I know to see them up against 15mm figures.

mech dude21 Apr 2013 10:48 p.m. PST

I've uploaded the first draft of the rules to the Mecha Front Yahoo Groups page: link

I've already made a few updates and additions which will be in the 2.0 release which I'll be posting shortly.

mech dude23 Apr 2013 3:16 p.m. PST

I'm finally starting to emerge from my post convention hang over, not oppertaing at 100% but I at least no longer feel like I need to be in a coma.

While at Adepticon I had a chance to pick up a box oft the Hawk Wargames City Scape, the card stock is excellent quality so they will hold up well. The graphics are all nice and clear without being so bright that they overpower the models. Set up is a breeze compared to the home made version I built for my demo table, doing the homemade stuff there was so much cutting and gluing that it was a chore and I blew through a set of ink cartridges so in end it was about the same cost for materials but far more time intensive.

These definately have a thumbs up from me if you are looking for cost effective terrain suitable for the Mecha Front games. I spoke with the guys at Hawk Wargames and they are cool with letting me use their stuff alongside the Mecha Front minis.

The homemade buildings I made for the demo were basically 2 story and 4 story buildings, they size up well against the Hawk stuff although the Hawk buildings tend to be longer and have more floors so they are much more suited for creating larger building centers like you'd see in a downtown metro area. As I've already run off plenty of my Homemade ones I'll likely be using a mix of the them and Hawk ones together. The Cityscape buling pack has 20 buildings in it which will easily cover enough space for a standard table. I'll probably pick up a second pack so I can have a very densely packed 4x6 table. It's top rate stuff for the price and I can't wait to see if they put out any expansion packs with more road options or maybe bridges.

Gorgeous. Now all we need are some actual miniatures ;)

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP24 Apr 2013 9:36 a.m. PST

Just read the rules. Quite mote detailed than I expected! Certainly going to be tough to run more than 2 mechs per side for few games.

Really liked some of the concepts, including piolet skills and sensors.

Only additional info I would like to see is more info on infantry, APCs, and flyers.

mech dude06 Jun 2013 1:29 a.m. PST

Had a few delays due to personal life, here's a render of the Noram Light Mecha that will be the test print.

I'm hoping to have it in shortly and the kickstarter will launch as soon as I'm able to verify that the master model is up to my quality standard.

mech dude08 Jun 2013 5:48 p.m. PST

I've placed a limited run of Raptors up for pre-order on my website.

Expected delivery is beginning of July. I am going to make 50 copies for this run of models, so if you want the all resin versions make sure to get in on these as the production models will have pewter components.

TheRatGod09 Jun 2013 12:23 p.m. PST

preorded one :). i already have some rebel minis mechs for my earth force these will be able to do your game and go with my 15mm forces quite nicely. I had a couple of ideas, those really big 4 leggers….anyway to add little catwalks or places 15mm infantry could stand on, ala the lil infantry could be armed with weapons to disrupt any of the smaller mechs that would come near the big guy at their fast speeds since he will most likely be slower and geared for longrange

Splod8909 Jun 2013 7:48 p.m. PST

Preordered 3 :)

Twoball Cane12 Jun 2013 8:16 p.m. PST

I will support the kickstarter. Fosho

Damn u 15mm….I can't quit You babe

mech dude22 Jun 2013 12:24 p.m. PST

The print arrived today and here's some pictures. Sorry about the quality my regular camera was out of juice and these are from my phone. It's currently held together by sticky-tac so some of the parts aren't fit perfectly and are a bit crooked. I'm very happy with how it came out, now i just have to get everything molded.

mech dude26 Jun 2013 10:17 a.m. PST

Some pics of the resin casts.

mech dude15 Jul 2013 1:15 p.m. PST

A whole bunch of updates. I now have mechafront.com up and running. (Content is still being added).

New artwork for several units.

Here are renders of the next mech that is headed in for printing.

I expect to have it available on the site early Aug. It will have 3 different variations and I'll also be releasing 2 more variants of the Raptor.

Lion in the Stars15 Jul 2013 2:41 p.m. PST

Hooooooo, boy, is this going to put a dent in my wallet!

mech dude29 Jul 2013 9:30 p.m. PST

The Goshawk master arrived today (on right), which came out wonderfully. I expect to be able to start accepting pre-orders in about two weeks.
