I got my first game of LOTR SBG in since my big push to get it all painted. It was fun, but I'm not sure I'm sold on the rules, or maybe we did some things wrong. More gaming needed.
Here's a write up on my blog: link Enjoy, Xin |

"2 Knights, bowmen and some Swordsmen push up the center. The Warriors of Haradrim bar the way. The little orchard there with my swordsmen proved to be a bit of a trap. I didn't know how in the rules to deal with it since he was right up against it. Defended obstacle?" Since Suladan could not back up, he would have been knocked prone and the winners would have double strikes to kill it. We are playing a big LOTR this Thursday at the South Of The River Gang. |

Great Battle Report. Love the terrain. The figures looked great too. I played SBG for awhile, and I'm thinking about starting up again. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to buy the Hobbit rule book because there's been updates. I own all the relevant source books and the Mines of Moria rule book. |

Yes, The Hobbit hardback rules are meant to be the new, current version of the skirmish rules for both Hobbit and LOTR, with presumably the War of the Ring rules carrying on to cover mass battles. My guess, however, is that once the Battle of Five Armies supplements are out (presumably with the third movie installment in 2014/5), we will see a revised mass battles set of rules to replace the War of the Ring and Battlehosts volumes. I cannot imagine GW will pass up that opportunity. |

We have formed a group in San Antonio TX that plays LoTR SBG event monthly. It is a fun skirmish game system. We still play the older rules system. Great write-up, terrain and figures. Looks like you guys are having fun. We tend to play 500pt games on a 2'x2' table using the scenario's in the source books (the newer ones). Our group is a mix of older guys (like me) and younger ones. We play at the Dragon's Lair (local game store) and have been adding a few players once they see us having a grand time. |

"Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to buy the Hobbit rule book because there's been updates" No, no. You just need to use whatever set of rules you are happy with. The game works just as well that way. :) |

Thanks for the comments. Leo, you only need the new rules if you want to fight armies from the movie "the Hobbit" The boxed set of figures(Escape from goblin town) has the figures and new rules. However they don't have point costs for the figures. The Hardbound book has the rules and army lists for all the new figures. |

The new rules mainly concern new options for the different weapons and new types of attack for monsters. The rest is pretty much the same. |
