I believe these are well known and quite old, but I only saw them the other day and have now developed a NEED for something similar….

The company appears to be out of business. So I have 2 questions for you?

1) does anyone know where I may be able to buy something similar? (Even if it has to be custom built?)

2) if there is no resolution to question 1), and I build my own, is there a market for something similar?

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I want one!

The aluminum cases are easy enough to find.

Looks like all you would really need to fabricate would be the paint racks, drawers, and tool holders. Should be cost effective enough if done with a laser cutter.

@ Mr Harold – my feelings exactly. But if I made one would you buy it?

@ weesparky – that's not what I asked. There are a number of reasons just buying any old case to convert does not give you what I've shown above. As to cost effective on a laser cutter – why pay for expensive bed time to make straight cuts you can do just as accurately with good powertools?

I assemble and paint on the road often, and I was tired of packing and unpacking a box constantly. After searching all around, I found the Battlefoam P.A.C.K 216 bag with the hobby tray and paint tray "load out."

It was the answer I needed. Now, I never unpack the bag, even when home painting on my hobby bench. I simply pull the tools/paint that I need for that session and then put it back.

I bought the Vallejo version of the foam, but they have GW and P3 too, I think.

I use a 3 drawer tool box with a large storage area on the top my wife got from Sears for $50. USD The top holds paints, tools, brushes etc. I put figures in the drawers for traveling. Quick, easy, inexpensive, portable. It goes everywhere with me. Has survived many trips while training.

The red plastic one for $49.99 USD on the second row 2nd from left.

Sorry about that. I was answering your first question;

1) does anyone know where I may be able to buy something SIMILAR? (Even if it has to be custom built?)

There is a market for it, but mass production at "reasonable" costs to produce them at an MSRP that gamers will pay would be tricky. Perhaps if you created a line of flat-packed quick build modules (out of laser cut materials, for instance) that could be placed into existing standard aluminum cases.

Yeah, it would be hard to do this for a reasonable MSRP. It needs to be really customizable. I use a huge variety of paints – Vallejo, Coat d'Arms, Derivan, Craft paint etc. etc. I can see loading it for each project but no way can it hold all my stuff. And how do you customize those paint holders? Sell different spindles?

If it were for me, I'd want a lot less tool room. I only have 5 brushes, two files, sprue cutters and hobby knife. All that extra space is wasted for me.

And where do you put figures being worked on? Those two tiny drawers on the bottom? When I paint I can get a lot done quickly. Especially in 6mm, where I might average a couple dozen strips of 4 per evening.

This might work for someone who paints 12 figures at a time and takes a week to do it, but except for an overnight trip, I'm still going to need a second carrier for the figs.

I would definitely go for something like that for when I am on the road.

Yes I've contacted them . No answer though yet. Will keep you informed.

I would definitely consider buying the D3 if they are still in business
