Just finished off a couple of skirmisher units for my greek/macedonian armies. First up is some greek javilins. These are Foundry
Next is some Black Tree slingers. I've painted these as Macedonians. Not sure if the colour is right but I wanted these to be bright
And then my photobucket crashed
I'll post the rest later. |

Sorted Photobucket (I think). Here are my Macedonian skirmisher/javelins. Two units using a mix of Foundry and Crusader
I hope you like. I've got Spartans to post up next. |

Love the purple and gold on the slinger's! Don't know if the colours are correct but they look spot on. All the figures look very good, spot on paint work and nicely based. |

Bracken it is hard to know for sure what colors were popular and what was common or not. We have some written information and then there is educated conjecture based upon archaeological evidence. Fabric is of course one of those things that rarely survives over vast amounts of time. We also have some ideas of colors from surviving mosaics and other artifacts. Purple was used by the Macedonians, as were reds, yellows, greens, blues, and then there would be unbleached and bleached linens. FYI the process of bleaching linen was done by using human urine. In the end for resource for painting ancients the Osprey books and other resource are pretty well vetted and provide excellent reference. |

Question: What shields/shield designs would you put on Spartan skirmishers, or did they not use them? |

I really like them, and can't wait to see the Spartans. |
