I've started developing some unit cards for Tomorrow's War. They're to be printed on standard 3x5 index cards. The profiles were created from photos I took of my Khurasan Federals, which I then traced in Adobe Illustrator.
I'm thinking of gaming in one of the Solomani wars, from Traveller mythology, but my knowledge of such things is very minimal, so purists might be upset by my mangling of the setting. You can look at said mangling on my blog.Constructive criticism is more than welcome!

That is very well done

I like the silhouette idea. Might have to start doing that with my own unit cards, just to save on color ink.

Thanks, ArmiesArmy.

The silhouettes are easy and fairly quick to do, and I think they will work well for identifying the appropriate miniatures.

I'm sure the same effect could be accomplished in photoshop or the freebies Inkscape and Gimp.

You're right, that wasn't too bad.

Here you go, Keith. :)

Nicely done!

Great stuff!

ArkieGamer06 Feb 2013 7:36 a.m. PST

Thanks, Mr. Harold. I am thinking these need some sort of unit insignia or national symbol, maybe treated as a watermark.

I've spent all morning teaching myself illustrator and pen paths and such because of you… grin

What font is that BTW?

And yes, a nice logo next to the vertical black bar, maybe grayed out, or even a nice color or two would look cool.

ArkieGamer06 Feb 2013 9:32 a.m. PST

Hah! I apologize. If you have the entire adobe suite, I'd recommend linking your illustrator work into inDesign, and doing text layout there.

You know, just in case you're finding mastery of Illustrator to be too easy.

I like your logo placement suggestion. I'll have to try it out soon.

Forgot to answer the font question-I'm not at that computer at the moment, and I can't remember the body font, but the title font is Technic.

Armiesarmy06 Feb 2013 9:41 a.m. PST

I can certainly tell its mine :)

A little sharper and I'm sure everyone will recognize it Chris!

I can live the dream……

Umpapa06 Feb 2013 10:14 a.m. PST

Great idea.

Alright, here is my shameless copy:

As a threat recognition card grin

Rock. Looks great! I love the industrial terrain you made underneath the flyer-very sci-fi compared to the grass.

What yours needs is some cool HUD looking dimensions on the various units pictured. In meters, of course.

Good Idea, i'll have to figure something out.

I still like your outlines better, but that's because you did it the "not lazy" way and actually traced the armor instead of just using "Trace"

ArkieGamer06 Feb 2013 11:20 a.m. PST

Live trace does a pretty good job. It's certainly a better return on your time. :/

Great idea Arkiegamer. And great execution.

You have no worries from Traveller canon-mongers with your Solomani TO&E because the simple fact is that there has never been a canon Solomani small unit organisation given in any Traveller product. So you're free to let your imagination run wild.

ArkieGamer06 Feb 2013 1:01 p.m. PST

Well that's a relief. Traveller canoneers are a fearsome lot!

I'm still upset though, but for reasons I long-ago forgot.

Rage is a dish best served cold and incoherently.

Need a platoon medic or medbot.

ArkieGamer07 Feb 2013 4:42 a.m. PST

Good call, especially considering how important medics are in TW.

You guys are gonna love the new Unit Diagrams in the BY DAGGER OR TALON book!

These look great, Arkie! Cool stuff, sir!

;)

Shawn.

Thank you, sir. Looking forward to By Dagger or Talon.

A few updates, and a new card…

Personal logo MrHarold Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Feb 2013 8:44 a.m. PST

Looking good! I really like the whitespace usage for the visors and such.

(Jake Collins of NZ 2)07 Feb 2013 12:16 p.m. PST

I would add a co-ax machinegun to your S-APC. Much better to be rolling 7 dice against an infantry target than just four! Especially if they have any form of body armour.

ArkieGamer07 Feb 2013 4:41 p.m. PST

Hmm..well, I'm not sure exactly what weapon this Humvee-esque miniature is armed with, but it's definitely some sort of energy weapon. I'm not totally up to speed with Tomorrow's War, yet. I'll do some more reading and, I'm sure, revise the card at some point. Thanks.
