In fairness to the Tudors they were very clever, just all tragically ducked up.

Trajanus, the 'glorious revolutions' were in the days when a) the mass of the population gave a rat's ass about religion b) even sincere devout Christians didn't get on.

The mass of the population now do not & the most of the devouts across the Catholic/Prot divide are supportive of each other. I'm a Vineyard Christian, opposite end of spectrum to Catholics in many ways but on good ecumenical terms with them.

Charles II has to be one of the greatest Britons of all time & Anne was only a disaster re child mortality?

Here in Leicestershire we have Kirby Muxloe castle, Hasting's dream home that was never finished because he got axed. It's only a few minutes from where I live but I've never been. Must get round to it.

One of my claims to fame is I helped behead Hastings on the mound of Stafford Castle back in '93 in the production that starred Tom Watt ('Lofty' in EASTENDERS) as Richard III

Good to know. However the monarchy isn't and is stuck in a constitutional time warp – hence the disaster that became Charles and Diana.

I'm not suggesting Charles should have gone out of his way to marry a Catholic but the 'requirement' to find a Protestant Virgin (sorry if that's vulgar but its also true) at all costs backfired somewhat!

On the basis of what?

I agree about Anne, its the male line I have a problem with!

I think the public should decide if Richard III remains stay in Leicester or go to York and judging by the HM e-petitions results so far then the voice of the people is YORK. Mind you not that the british publics voice means much anymore, only reason david cameron has promised us a vote on Europe (after the next general election) is so he can get re elected

Charles II came to power after a period of trauma & tension following decades of gruelling civil war & a fundie dictatorship. He managed the settlement for a constitutional monarchy that has kept the peace & the basis for democracy for nearly 400 years. We have never suffered another radical revolution & ensuing dictator or another civil war. Compare our subsequent history to that of France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Eire, let alone eastern european states, & a lot of the difference is the moderate pragmatism of Charles.

Let's create a mobile chapel of rest. He can afterlive a traveller existence, parking up in different locations he had connection to in life…

That would be a good alternative to the argument
