Were the patterns of US Infantry Regimental flags the same in the War of 1812 as those in the American Civil War?

No the flags were mostly different. I'm not aware of any that were the same.

Are you asking about the sizes and not design?

More stars in the field, always same number (13) of stripes.

Stars= the contemporary number of states in the Union.

Although some may not agree with what is on WarFlag as far as accuracy, here is his take on:

By the Civil War, US regiments were carrying the Stars and Stripes as their national flag. The older national flag from 1812 -- blue with the eagle -- was used as the regimental flag.

The "Stars and Stripes" flag during the War of 1812 was 15 Stars and 15 Stripes (1 for each state). They didn't reduce the stripes to 13 until 1818. But that shouldn't have been carried into battle anyways.

United States ground units did not carry the Stars and Stripes. Two flags they carried were a blue National flag and a cream/off-yellow Regimental one.
