What a story, Simon
I have seen the Barham footage so many times but wouldn't have credited the unlikely Miller tale. A real pity you had to miss the occasion. My maternal grandfather was one of those many underage volunteers in the Great War
he got all the way to France before being rumbled and was kept back from the Front on depot duties! I might owe being here to his plan being thwarted. Phil |

Hi Phil, Thanks, it is quite a tale. Chance plays such a part in war. After the war, my dad met one of the other marine buglers. My uncle's watch had just been relieved, and the new bugler had taken his place. When the ship blew up, the new boy bugler was blown clear of the ship and survived, but my uncle, below decks, sadly had no chance. Cheers, Simon |
