Hi there,

just thought I asked opinions on the best sources for scenarios for various periods, from the Punic Wars to the Gallic Wars, to Alexander's conquests and so on?

Free sources are of course preferred, but paid sources are good as well.

One I already know about is ccancients.net , but I'm also looking for scenarios that tell a story. This is for Hail Caesar.

Lost Battles comes to mind.

I haven't tried to use it as a scenario generator, but it might work. There's another TMPer that plays them, but his name escapes me right now.

Oh yeah, I happen to have that game (and the book), too.
Good call! I'd forgotten about it.

If you can find any of the old SPI games, they can be used as scenarios. Terrain placement, unit placement and strengths.

Saga Publishing link published scenario books for Terry Gore's Medieval Warfare. India Wargames link lists the scenarios with maps from the books.

Although primarily written for Gore's rules, their is enough information that you could adapt the scenarios to any ruleset.

This book might be useful to you.

For the 2nd Punic War, G. Pruit's scenario book "Hannibal Ad Portas" has ten excellent scenarios. They are designed for Archon by Piquet, and make excellent use of that game's special properties, but even allowing for that, HAP would be great inspiration for anyone playing historical games for that era.

The Cry Havoc board game would work well for skirmish level games.

Peter Sides (I think was the author's name) did a small pamphlet listing 20 or so medieval battle scenarios and OBs for them using DBM if I remember right. I have a copy around here somewhere, but can't remember the details off the top of my head.

I have Battles of the Ancient World. It's a good read, and it also includes diagrams on the breakdown of each battle.
