I watched "Westworld" the other day with my son. I just had this thought. I know the Asians are working on something like this. |

Great. A wife that has super-human mechanical strength and could snap a spine like you snap a bit of leftover sprue. It's all great until she realizes the new smart phone is WAY smarter than you. And won't ever get a paunch. |

We use AT-43 Therians (the "female" ones) in our Retro-sci/fi campaign. They form Drang's * "ex-wive club": whenever he tires of a wife, after blasting her into space she is reanimated as a part-robot, part-human servitor. They form some of his most loyal, and most cruel and devious minions. * "Drang the Dreadful" (aka "Ming the Merciless") |

.boring? You could program it not to be. More likely something like the empathetic pets in 'Blade Runner'. |

I doubt we'll ever get biologically realistic androids like the movies. If we are lucky we'll get something like a cross between an actroid, the HRP-4C and a Realdoll. I don't think robots will pass for human any time soon. As for robots having super strength, it's like expecting all small town cars to have a W16 1001 horsepower engine as standard, laser pointers to go into the 20 megawatt range and expecting your assault rifle to punch through the front plate of an M1 tank a mile away. A robot running about doing standard light work will probably drain its batteries faster than the most power hungry smart phone today. I do foresee a huge potential in the sex industry, operating in places where prostitution is illegal, doing away with STD, furthering female emancipation etc. |
