I was looking through my old Squadron Sherman in Action book when I noticed some of the Shermans used in Italy had a sand and olive drab paint scheme. I was wondering how common this was and was it used in any other theater of the war.

Not uncommon & also used in the NW European theatre, although black tended to be the contrasting colour used in that theatre. link links to the official instructions.
