Over the weekend I attended a game day here in the NW. I played Black Powder ACW. The Rebs were all Old Glory figures, NOT the 2nd edition, but the ones currently on the website.
I thought they looked really cool!!! I'm assuming he probaly cherry-picked 10 to 15 figures per/from multiple bags……

In my research I've seen ALOT of bashing on Old Glory ACW's. But I'm sure there has to be some of you who are pleased? I would like to hear a few testimonies and/or pictures from those who have and like OG 28mm ACW's…

I love OG 25mm figures. The bulk of all of the periods I collect use their figures. The ACW line features some really great stuff, with a unique design that is reflective of the motion, dynamic, Peter Gilder Connoisseur style. Figure choice is a matter of personal opinion. Be prepared for all the OG haters to pop up.

I forgot – you can cycle through various older posts on my blog and see the OG figures (mixed with other manufacturers) and see some examples. link

I think Old Glory are great. Some of the poses look a bit goofy – some of the marching poses for instance where the character is posed "mid-stride" as it were, but for the price you cannot complain. They are fairly well detailed and take the paint well. Long live OG I say.

I like OG, I've been using them since the late 80s. Mostly I have ancients I don't have any of the older ACW sculpts but like what I've seen. I do have some of the 2nd ed. and like them a lot.

I can be critical of OG at times, as I can of any company, but to me the 1st edition has a special charm.

They look like the soldiers in this and other paintings. (There is a painting that looks just like OG poses, but I can't find it now. I saw it on a documentary on Waterloo.) Were such paintings used as references?

75% of my 25mm ACW are Old Glory. Many are the very old style that you had to glue on the heads. I love them. The rest are Dixon… also very fine figs.

They're a great bargain, especially if you get into the OG Army. I love their British Colonials for the NWF, Very Nice Figures!

The "Old style" in the 1st edition ACW with the glue on heads (Dave Allsop) are still the exact same figures in the packs --just with the heads already attached.
If you have been around long enough to remember the Peter Gilder style with alot of movement then you will love these.
If you prefer the more static poses the 2nd edition figures were made to go with that current trend as well as the plastics.

Russ,
Are there any current plans of the table to add to the 2nd Edition (Napoleonics: French Russian Westphalian 1812) please?

If the 1st edition ACW are of the same quality as the Old Glory 25mm Pirates, I think they are wonderful. Mr. Dunaway can respond to that. I have a huge 25mm/28mm pirate collection and the largest number of those figures are Old Glory. They combined well with my Foundry pirate figures both in terms of size and being really interesting figures. You can see them at warin15mm.com/Pirates.html

I had read a lot about the OG stuff being not good also when I was getting into ACW a few years back.

I bought some of the earlier items from a eBay auction (separate heads) and got them in a HUGE bag and began to go through/straighten the bent parts out and so on them and as I did I really began to like them a lot (I was suprised that out of the few hundred in the bag only one had a broken rifle tip) – and like you I though what is the problem with these miniatures?!

The charm for me was the difference of the miniatures/poses they have. I now have OG and Dixon as well as Perry and other miniatures, once you paint them up I think you are really going to like the charm on the OG ACW miniature, they have a lot of character!

I plan to order a large amount ACW very soon once I get through what I have now.

I did not know that. Your original Dave Alsop figures are what compelled me to start building ACW armies. I had sold off my collection and was lamenting that I could not get these figures anymore to rebuild the collection. Russ, you just made my day! thumbs up

I've got a mix of various manufacturers in my collection. You can't beat the price but on some of the poses you have to say, "Really? Who thought this contortionist pose was a good idea?"

Even with some of the odd poses, which I never really believed, the whole of the figures based and put into units is like looking a photo of troops of in motion. Kinda like a snap shot of the action as it is happening.

Second, it always a mazes me when people finally get their hands on some Old Glory miniatures and finally realize that all the talk is nothing more than talk. Once they have the miniatures in hand, painted and based, they enjoy them greatly.

Mikeygees,

I'm afraid I'm the one who painted most of those OG 1st Edition Rebs. It has been a few years but I don't recall being particularly careful about what figures I picked out of the bags.

I believe I used every and all figures in the advancing and skirmishing packs in regular and light equipment. These are fun figures to paint and are full of character.

The Union figures are Sash and Saber which I like as well.

Bill.

Thank you everyone….

Not sure I agree with this idea that the Dave Alsop figures I have are the same as currently in production – I have both sets of figures and there is a definite differences. Anyway I have 2 boxes of 67 figures on sale for $50 USD bucks a box see my add listed separately. Thanks

Nasty Canasta09 Feb 2013 3:20 p.m. PST

These are great comments. I'm going to fall in with OG.

If you buy Old Glory, you can't go wrong if you join their Old Glory Army; they give you 40% off on Old Glory figs plus they'll give you a free set of their specials when you first order (I got the Union Camp set).

Well vollyfirewargames, I can show, prove, and guarantee you that the Dave Allsop figures are the ones still available in the packages today --just with the heads cast on????
Its not reall an "idea".
