Any title with "sky pirates" (which like space pirates, are superior to everyday ones) and "airships" in it is naturally a winner
Anyway, it is an interesting alternative to the "offical" Aeronef rules for Brigades' impressive flying battleship miniatures. Review starts partway down the page. link As usual, I hope this is helpful to someone

Thank you, Very helpful. I have been considering buying WTNW and this supplement is tipping me towards a purchase decision. Al |

The review suggests that Aeronef is produced by A&A Gaming, whereas it is published by Wessex Games btw I wrote some expanded rules for Aeronef (including naval rules). If anyone would like a copy drop me a line. |

Wow, you must have some serious issues with the Wessex people to not only discount Aeronef's good reviews as "inexplicible", dismissing the reviewers' own opinions, but to actually accuse Wessex of manipulating the reviews to their benefit. With that kind of vitriol, it seriously calls your the objectivity of the other review in question. |

@ David Manley. Apologies for the mix up. I thought it was weird, as I have a few A&A aircraft rules and they were the opposite end of the spectrum (carefully detailed vs the "roll sixes and tick off boxes"). OT: Did you do some add-ons for General Quarters? I'm pretty sure I recall enjoying some Falklands GQ game you did? Did you ever do pre-dreadnought house rules? @ Black Cavalier. Have nothing against Wessex at all. In fact I rate their C21: Airwar rules as the most playable jet game, and I very much enjoy the zombie blog of one of the co-authors. For balance, here's some more nicely-worded Aeronef reviews (top two google searches) link and link I noticed the second one pretty much repeats my comments, sans sarcasm. |

"OT: Did you do some add-ons for General Quarters? I'm pretty sure I recall enjoying some Falklands GQ game you did? Did you ever do pre-dreadnought house rules?" I did – just been uploaded to the Naval Wargames Society website after mine diedd last year. |

@DM Fortunately, Warlords of the Skies and Warlords of the Oceans are available on archive.org. REALLY scared me there; excellent additions to the game! Now, Airships and Sky Pirates, doesn't this require the original WTNW ruleset too? Or, am I thinking of another set? Least, that's what I had at one point, and tossed it into the 'someday' pile because I didn't feel like learning ground battle just to fly ones in the air. Of course, I have both if I ever want to get round to trying out death-in-the-dirt. In spite of reading through most of the book, just haven't had the itch yet. Doug |

@TheBeast You are correct. I wasn't delighted about having to pay $10 USD for a 2nd pdf I did not want, in order to play. Also, switching between rulesets was at times confusing and inconvenient. A&SP should have been stand alone. |

Again OT re: pre-dreadnought GQ mod – David, I looked here link and here link Didn't see any GQ variants
I really liked the modern GQ version so keen to get my hands on a copy

As one of the authors, I may be somewhat biased, but there are some things I just loved about developing that game. I will mention your point about including basic mechanics (although I believe there is a free 'Lite' version which may cover those) if there is ever another edition release. I know that Rob has been good in the past about offering free edition update PDFs as well. |

How did you like the fleet rules? I did a lot of work on those. Yes, be honest. |
Watchtower78 | 26 Jan 2013 4:58 a.m. PST |
the free rules will get you started and covers everything except sabotage and building units. J did a fantastic job on this as my co author. We will be doing airship mins for this game. Thanks for the nice words. I also just approved the hard copies of the wtnw card deck. the deck of cards eliminates the need to roll on a chart or to have any record keeping as you can simply place the cards next to the units. for instance, place order cards (or tokens) on each unit during each phase to declare those that are activating and randomly select from the internal hits when a threshold it reached. the deck will be ready in Feb and will be priced affordable. we have a pdf version of the card deck available now but the hard copy is much nicer. whenthenavywalked.com armchairgeneral1.blogspot.com |

"You are correct. I wasn't delighted about having to pay $10 USD USD for a 2nd pdf I did not want, in order to play." Well, the $$-issue was not a player for me; I already had the first set, and several of the other expansions. I really did want to like it all; can't say why it didn't light a fire under me. "Also, switching between rulesets was at times confusing and inconvenient." A bit more of my experience, that. As a vacchead, I'm drawn to naval/fleet/whatever rule sets. The name, 'When The Navy Walked' should have done it from the start. ;->= I will see if the lite version (and, no, I don't despise that spelling) works better for me. Might even get me starting up with some land ironclads, as well. Doug |

Hi Dave, Is it possible to send me a copy of your Warlords of the Skies and Warlords of the Ocean rules. I did have a copy of them both but my external HDD has gone up, so i'm slowly claiming everything back. Much appreciation. Jeff |
