I have always been rather fond of the Sdkfz 222. The angular construction, low profile, the beetle-like appearance (from the side and rear) cause this to be my favorite non-tank vehicle of the war. Yes, it had its deficiencies, but given a choice of WWII vehicle to own, today, this would be it.
What is your favorite ground vehicle of the war? Let's limit it to support, transport, armored cars, please (for this purpose, let's define "tank" as armored, turreted, tracked, and armed with a main gun larger than 14.5mm). |

DUKW. It is so ugly! And like all hybrids, it doesn't do either job very well, but does do two mediocre. |

This is a no-brainer for me. My favorite non-tracked WWII vehicle is the SdKfz 231 (6x4) "6-Rad," with the SdKfz 234/2 (8x8) Puma coming in at a distant second.

Justin Penwith | 18 Jan 2013 10:31 p.m. PST |
@28mm Fanatik The vehicle can be tracked, but it cannot also be armored, turreted, and have a main gun over 14.5mm. This means an SPG legit is for a possible answer., or even a Hetzer, for example. I do like the Daimler, too. The very first WWII land vehicle model I assembled as a kid was the Sdkfz 222. I just liked the look of that vehicle and examined it for hours. I don't know whatever came of it, as I packed it away when I went into the Corps. The rest of the responses from you gents ARE interesting. |

I've always been fond of the Japanese and Russian amphibious tankettes. as the Japanese ones are usually armed a bit better, that would mean the T37: link However, Daimler, Panhard and Puma armoured cars are also on the list. |

I saw a Kettenkrad running about at Bovington when I was a kid and that has always stuck with me

..that Beetle with chunky tyres looks good too

Schwimmwagen, Willys Jeep in a close second. It's a shame that so few schwimmwagens survived, but I've found a source for fiberglass replica hulls. Funny enough, the big Polaris 4x4s have the same weight and gross weight ratings, so you could use one of them for running gear. You'd need to find a VW Bug VIN plate to make the resulting vehicle street legal, though. The AS42 Sahariana is firmly in third place. |

I would say that British vehicles have certain "stiff upper lip" sort of charm, even though they might have had certain shortcomings in their design. Besides many nice vehicles already mentioned, I have soft spot for the jolly old Quad gun tractor. It may be a bit clumsy and boxy looking, but it does so it in a suitably British fashion. Besides it is also good friends with mister 25 pounder.

If SPs are 'non tank', then I have always had a soft spot for the Jagdpanzer IV. Otherwise the lowly Universal carrier. The vehicle which has baffled dozens of rule writers
