…but the price?!

24 plastics for £18.00 GBP Compare that to their macedonians, 40 figs for £20.00 GBP Or even Victrix Greeks, 48 figs for £23.00 GBP

Is it just me, or is that over the top for plastics (75p a figure).

Are we now feeding a Warlord beast?

Yes, yes you are!

I have been waiting for these.

However, I got the newsletter and was neither impressed by the price nor the box concept. They have one box of 24 with Pila and one box of 24 with Gladius. I would have preferred a mix of weapons.

Paragonicnova18 Jan 2013 11:03 a.m. PST

Maybe its because they have much more plastic? We havent seen the sprues yet but compared to pike wielding macedonians I'm gonna bet theres much more posability with these guys

Though dont their other romans come with both pilum and gladius? That is a bit odd that these do seem like a price increase

Sysiphus18 Jan 2013 11:06 a.m. PST

It must be the "sling arm option" .

mydogbarks18 Jan 2013 12:20 p.m. PST

Well the US price is $29. USD Before they switched to their new "US website", all their prices had the VAT removed at check out. Not any more. Since that time I have found other options for my purchases. I also thought it was odd to purchase different boxes for weapon choice. Why not have a separate weapon sprue similar to their Bolt Action sets?

Dawnbringer19 Jan 2013 6:22 a.m. PST

I think they've seen what Fireforge can get away with price/value wise and are having a go themselves, which is unfortunate.

Well too be honest Warlord has been fluctuating in price for their plastic figures for a while now. I am really unsure what determines the price besides possibly them estimating how many boxes people "need" for certain games

Picking up some recent examples

WW2 Infantry: $36 USD for 25 figures
WW2 Russian Infantry: $45 USD for 40 figures
Napoleonic Infantry: $29 USD for 4 metal and 28 plastic figures
Anglo Zulu War British Infantry: $32 USD for 4 metal and 20 plastic figures
Anglo Zulu War Zulus: $32 USD for 1 metal and 32 plastic figures

For comparison, I got two boxes of the Wargame Factory Caesarian Romans (48 figures per box) a few years back for £20.00 GBP So £20.00 GBP for 96 figures.

They look fine painted up (although not so good when unpainted)

Suetonius Paullinus22 Jan 2013 8:40 a.m. PST

I'm okay with £18.00 GBP for 24 figures. 75p per figure is hardly a rip off.
Of course I would have preferred 40 figures but hey I would have preferred not to pay my tax bill too.
The sculpts look lovely and I'm sure my WF plastic Caesarian Romans will be scheduled for retirement soon.
My only hope is this is going to be a (more or less) comprehensive range like their EIRs!
Preordered.

It's a shame that they jumped the prices,, but they're still not that expensive and I think they look good. As long as plastics are the same price or cheaper than comparable metals then I can still see the value in them.

I am pretty annoyed by the box set composition, though. All of their EIR sets have an even mix of gladius-armed and pilum-armed soldiers (or close to even, anyways), and other sets like their Celts have plenty of equipment options, so it's a bit baffling and obnoxious to split the two up into different sets. It feels like a cheap money grab, to get you to buy both sets.

No way I am going to pay as much for plastic as I would for metal. And I am a plastic fan you know. These prices approach metal figure prices (Old Glory's are only Euro 0.06 more) without any explanation.

I was wondering if they would form the basis of a conversion to IER auxiliaries – with appropriate heads/helmets and shields …

WDYT?

NORTIVS MAXIMVS04 Feb 2013 6:30 a.m. PST

That will be EIR then!

Pijlie04 Feb 2013 10:25 p.m. PST

Why would you want to convert them to EIR? Those are already available.

NORTIVS MAXIMVS05 Feb 2013 5:36 a.m. PST

… because they are wearing different mail to the existing auxiliaries (which I have) … and I thought the slinger option would be an interesting variation …

Valator05 Feb 2013 9:03 a.m. PST

I'm going to have to wait for comparison shots between these and the Wargames Factory guys before I make a decision. If they're midgets like their EIR plastics, I'll probably skip them entirely. If they're in the ballpark of the WF Caesarians, I'll pick up a box to see for myself.

There are now pictures of some painted units on their website:

They look promising indeed :-)
