Titled "The Pennsylvania Associators 1747-1777", by Joseph Seymour.
Epturner tells me he is a reenactor and the army's … Herald??? grin

It's a study of the Associators, formed in Pennsylvania, where the pacifist Quaker government would not support a militia. Very interesting.
It is well worth a wargamer's time.

Ordered. Fortunately Abebooks UK also has a number of them (though one less now ;-)), because p & p from the US is for us Europeans almost the same amount as for the book itself…

Whatever became of the Philadelphia Associators after Princeton?

I'll let you know when I get to that chapter.

Skipping ahead (Hey! It's a HISTORY BOOK, not an Agatha Christie!), it seems that in 1777, Pennsylvania passed an actual militia law. The Associators seem to have been incorporated into the militia, but it WAS complicated.
The Philadelphia Artillery of the Associators become Pennsylvania's contribution to the Continental Artillery.

Yep, he's a reenactor and works for the US Army Center for Military History. Not sure where "herald" comes from unless he's working with the Army's historical heraldry.

Great guy.

VA Tory: is that the USMHI in Carlisle, PA, part of the War College?
Shucks, that would be practically just down the road from me!

VA Tory;
Joe works for the Heraldry Department, last I talked to him. Was hoping to spend some quality time talking with him at Germantown, but was too busy.

Since we are both on FB, I suppose I should say howdy to him more often.

Eric
