just a few pages to show you what the Song of Spear and Shield book might look like. We are still working on it and the text is unedited. Any criticism appreciated. The pdf will be available in a inksaving version too with the background and all pictures removed (diagrams essential to understanding the rules will be kept). The book will be a full color softcover, around 60 pages.

Looks very tempting. I'll be buying these.

I'm in!

Lovely piece of work! Very professional looking with great art work and photography. This book will easily take its place with GW and Osprey as a quality presentation. The printer friendly version will be very appreciated too!

A question about basing: is there a difference in game play between basing figures on square bases as opposed to basing them on round bases? Most "battle" games (were you rank up miniatures) are square based while skirmishing games are round based (like GW's LOTR/The Hobbit). Is this done so that units can rank up?

Dale Hurtt14 Jan 2013 8:29 a.m. PST

It looks like it is also done so you can determine arc of fire and when you've hit a unit's flank or rear.

Looking good Andrea! Might be my next purchase. Speaking of next, when will it be released?

Great stuff as always, Andrea! i will be picking these up (Like I do all Ganesha games products).

On a side note, I'm getting back into SOBH after a dry spell and decided to put together a warband based around Reaper's "Frost Giant Princess" Figure:

One of my favorite things about the SOBH system is the ease of putting together your own unique collections.

Only Warlock, post that warband here when you are done, I always intended to do an ice themed faction as well using her as the centerpiece.

Sure will, Glenn!

I use squares/rectangles for formed units and round bases for open order troops, but you can use squares for all if you prefer. Figures have front, sides and read and shooting arc extends 45 degrees from the front corners.

Are these going to be released or did SoSaD and OGAM effectively replace them?

thanks

Prince Lupus – I can't say when they are coming out, but I can confirm that they are still on the way.

SSD uses the straight SBH mechanics (small factions, no 'facing', etc).

SSS uses different, slightly more complex mechanics to represent formations of troops etc.

OGAM is all about the relationship between fighting gods and their mortal worshipers, so I think that is something else again.

Song of Spear and Shield seems to have disappeared from the planet. Any news? Rumors? I would have loved to see these rules published, but they seem to have been discarded from Ganesha Games plans. That's a great pity.

Frothers Did It And Ran Away02 Nov 2017 1:28 p.m. PST

Yeah, I would love to see SSS finally appear. From what I've seen the fantasy "big battle" game, Song of Armies and Hordes is coming soon, I suppose you could use that and just ignore the magic and stuff.

Capt Flash07 Jan 2018 10:46 a.m. PST

Armies and Hordes and the spaceship game…

Bob Runnicles08 Jan 2018 9:55 a.m. PST

I've heard people just use SBH and ignore the fantasy stuff. I'd prefer to see a dedicated ruleset though, shame if this has fallen off the radar.

Three and a half years since i last asked about tbese rules. Better go to plan B.

Like Knights and Knaves – for instance.

Shame less plug.

PS bit of a pity re rules as I do like the SBH concepts.
