I whipped up some disruption markers for an ancients game the other week using a quick and inexpensive technique. The how-to is here, if anyone wants to take a look. link Thanks, and hope it's useful for someone. Cheers, Aaron |

Simple and effective, and they don't stand out like a sore thumb. Good idea. |

Nice work. I'm a fan of game markers that look like battlefield elements (e.g. Fire & Fury markers). |

On the right track but I prefer a dead figure on a hex base. Lay it with the head towards a point of the hex and the body along one of the sides. The two sides nearest the head are one casualty, the two sides nearest the feet two casualties and the body sides are three. Simple and does not clutter up the table. Where a stand or unit (depending on the scale of the game) is lost I put a dead figure on a round or square base and leave it behind when the remainder of the unit moves off. VR James Mattes

Great idea, and nicely executed too. |

Thanks, all! James, casualty figures would be great, but for ancients they don't work unless you're prepared to paint up figures to match every unit you have. Good for generic uniformed armies, but if I'm going to import and paint up a hundred figures, I'd rather put the time & lead towards getting a new army on the table. That's just me though. Maybe I'm lazy :) |

I did much the same. Stuck spare arrows from the Perry plastic WoTR set to pennies and added sand and flock. Chuck them down next to a unit as it takes casualties. I have also used the Hex idea for ACW. Used a colour scan of a dead figure, added a hex and numbers using the computer and printed dozens out on card. Works well for a period like ACW where two generic types cover most casualties. (Actually only used a Union figure, recoloured the blue to grey for a Reb). |

A great idea, which I will be stealing promptly. When I first read about the screw covers, I thought you were going to make discarded shields. The little flocked mounds with arrows/javelins/spears (they'd be spears for my 6mm guys) are MUCH simpler though. Doug |

Cool! I wonder if, for a modern/sci-fi equivalent, I could make markers with small pockmarks in them, to show firearms impacts. |

Glad to be of use, Doug. Javelin98, would you consider puffs of smoke (sprayed cotton wool) on washers? My mate uses that for Modern Spearhead (as do many others no doubt) and it looks good. Pockmarks done right would look pretty good though. |
